Took the first step toward RE
During the nadir of the Great Recession, I took a high commission sales job with the idea that if I could squeeze through for two years til I was 40, then likely my stock portfolio would have somewhat recovered and I could FIRE. As it turns out, I really have enjoyed the people I w*rk with and the j*b itself has been mostly low pressure, great pay, and not too time consuming, so eight years later I'm still doing it. But today I asked the company to stop sending me new sales leads...I'll just respond to business where the customer requests me personally. This is my first step on a glide path to total FIRE. Feels great!!!

Good question. I've committed to not w*rking a single day into my 50's, so my worst case is a couple years of gliding, but I may just pull the plug early depending on b.s. bucket.

What was the response to not sending you any more leads? Did they ask why?

They were fine with it. I’ve been very transparent about my plans for a few years, and the team has made it clear they respect me and my decisions, so for now all is good.
