I calculated my average expense ratio: ranges from .04 to .71

.1844% average

Retired July '11 investments 55/45 in very low cost index and mutual funds, balance once a year at best.

So, unless I misunderstand you, on average your portfolio is 542 times your annual expenses (= 100%/0.1844%)? Wow, that's great!!!

Mine is pretty favorable, but not THAT good.

yes that right 542 times...maybe that's a better way of saying it or ...a fifth(approx.) of one percent


schwab's schb @.04 is a big help......if I move my vwinx to vanguard so I could get admiral shares it would lower some more but I would have to manage another account.

OP is talking of their portfolio expense ratio (ER), not is withdrawal rate (WR).

That is a very good ER, but not exceptional. Mine is 0.19% as well, but has been as low as 0.16%.

Oh, oops! Mine is in that range, too. I was half asleep and thought he was talking about his spending rate. I have been with Vanguard index funds so long that I forgot some people might pay 0.71% off the top like that.

Based on the title "Total expenses", I was on the same track initially.
