what are you buying with your roth contribution?

I think I'm going to combine my $4000 this year along with some extra cash in my Roth and buy myself 400 shares of Sportsman's Guide (SGDE). I think this little gem of a company should be worth $35 by years end, and it trades at $22 a share today, giving me a nice cushion of safety, with a nice upside to boot. Great management, loyal customers, efficient and a successful business model make up the plot to their story!

Nice company, fairly impressive financials. If I had plenty of "extra" money, I might buy some...

As for myself, I will continue to plow IRA money into good 'ol VTIVX, and buy some international funds with the ROTH IRA dinero.

I love Vanguard

Re: what are you buying with your roth contributio

I ordered some boots from Sportsmans Guide and they pushed hard to get me to pay some bucks to join the club. Some of their emails appeared to have been written offshore.

Then they told me the boots were backordered until April.

I canceled the order and decided never to do business with them again.

I would not buy stock in this operation, it is poorly run.

thanks for the input skylark, i'll maybe think about trimming back my wager on them, investors often undervalue customers opinions about a firm. i'll have to review some financials and think about it.

I have been moving into Vanguard now s l o w l y as CDs come due and ECATS liquidate and transition other funds from "full service" broker. Anyway Tuesday seemed like a good day to go shopping so for the IRA I bought :

VFINX
VIPSX
VGSIX

I hope it isn't too late...

First, I'm buying cash.

We just made both our 2005 Roth IRA deposits. Now we have to make sure that my spouse actually has an $8000 2005 W-2!

Later this year-- after "sell in May" or another Federal Reserve publicity stunt-- we'll buy iShares' S&P600/Barra Small-cap Value ETF (IJS).

This years' real gains will come from another partial Roth IRA conversion. Looks like we'll have to time those cap gains to minimize taxes, too.

Husband - Wellington VWELX
Mine - Vanguard Total Stock

I'm glad this came up because I don't why but when I balance our workplace plans, I never consider these because they are a small percent of the total.

Do I understand the rules correctly. If our combined income goes over $150K per year, we cannot contribute to Roth?

I think it is adjusted income (i.e., after deduction)
