what is a good company that offers life insurance?

what is a good company that offers life insurance?

should i go with a big company (metlife, allstate,etc..) or use a smaller company? any recommendations?

dooo42, I'd approach this from the other direction. I'd look for online insurance brokers that sell multiple companies' policies, find the best prices, then check the company ratings (A.M. Best or Standard & Poors, for example).

standard and poors website is a little overwhelming. how do i use it to check insurance companies?

Allstate will have horrible rates. Use the help of an independent agent that offers coverage from 10+ companies. Unless you are in absolute perfect health, you can't just pick a company. The underwriting between one company and another could be completely different, especially if you have any major health issues (diabetes, any heart problems, elevated liver functions, etc etc).
