What's more important, asset allocation or taxation

I know both matter, but if you had to choose what would you consider more important the correct asset allocation or minimizing your tax bill

Asset allocation and taxes are both important to consider in investment.

Is there more to your question than you have indicated ? Do you have a very specific question ?

I've never thought of it as an either/or type of question. But considering the fact that I wouldn't change my asset allocation for tax reasons, I guess I consider asset allocation more important.

But tax considerations do impact the assets in my portfolio. I own Muni bonds, which I would not otherwise own if not for tax reasons. I'm postponing a decision on TIPS to see what the new I Bond rate is because of the tax deferral features of I Bonds. Etc.
