I'll continue to walk the fine line between tax avoidance (completely legal if not encouraged by the IRS) and tax evasion (illegal - I don't want to go to jail). Always have and always will. It is better to save what you can on taxes in 99% of the cases, and if in 1% of the cases you have to pay the 20% negligence penalty, plus interest plus the actual tax, then so be it. I just never engage in any tax fraud or anything that would border upon tax fraud.

No change in my behavior due to government tax revenue being spent inefficiently though. Inefficient spending always has been and always will be the case w/ the government.

If you hate paying taxes, we welcome you to Dubai. 0% income tax, 0% sales tax, 0% property tax.

I tend to agree with Brewer. This is not the first time the government has spent my tax dollars on things that mostly benefit the financial elite. It happens all the time, and this $2000 is just a drop in that bucket. If I were to only pay taxes for things I agreed with, I'd have been thrown in jail long ago (or lived with the stress of knowing that was a possibility at any time).

Most importantly if everyone did this (not paying taxes for what they didn't like), our country would be absolutely positively dead.

If I saw someone else acting in a way that I felt was wrong, I don't think that immediately gives me a pass to ignore my own convictions and follow along. "Your honor, he did it too" is not a valid legal defense.

Walk your own path with regards to what you feel is right and wrong and live and sleep by the courage of your convictions.
