I think that EW Gal has the key. Most on this forum are quietly wealthy, and your life will change greatly if you are handed a 6 foot check on TV. All of a sudden you are resented and a target.

Remember the reaction when you tell people that you are FI? Multiply that >200x.

Win the Powerball, what would you change?

I would no longer be a cord cutter. Probably sign up for the full package with Dish or Direct TV.

Let's see....If I win the powerball lottery....before I turn in the winning ticket I would;
1. change phone numbers and give the numbers to very few people
2. contact lawyer/tax expert for advice
3. buy a new Cadillac Excalade and throw in some summer clothes and drive to Florida. Here it's forecasted to be single digit temps this weekend.

After I collect the lump sum payout I would;
4. explain to DD that there is much advantage in it to her to a. get married, b. present us with grandchild, c. visit us regularly. (only kidding..sort of)
5. gift one time only, very generously to extended family
6. give generously to chosen charities
7. then we treat ourselves, with maybe a condo on the beach in Florida and a house in the mountains. Also fly first class on vacations instead of coach. Of course I will need a few toys, collector cars, big shop loaded with tools, DW will want some bling as well. No more sitting in the bleachers at my favorite university sports team, I will relax in my own luxury box courtesy of a big donation. Of course treat family and friends to really nice vacations.

Oh, it's fun to dream...best $4 I ever spent.

All new underwear and socks.

Buy brand name peanut butter from now on.

Get my oil changed and splurge on synthetic oil.

Travelover, my dad once said that the definition of rich for him was if he could throw away his socks after just one wearing!

We are buying two lottery tickets today. If I win, I'll buy a truckload of socks for the old man!

Like a few others on the forum I find it difficult to wrap my head around this amount of money.
1. Hire attorney/CPA and keep it as quiet as possible
2. Give money to select family members
3. Travel 1st class and expand travel
4. Buy a boat for DH 21'-24' (to cruise around the PNW San Juan Islands)
5. Might upgrade a few things around the house and our cars
6. Have a private chef and massage therapist on retainer
7. Large donations to select charities

Truth is, winning a lottery of this size is likely to end up being a nightmare for the lucky ticket holder.

That is my honest feeling, as well. I suspect that many lottery winners end up wishing they could turn back time and pass it up. Would make a good Twilight Zone story.

Hire body guards.

Worry about being kidnapped, or relatives being kidnapped for few million ransom.

In some ways its too much money, hard to even think how to spend it.

I would build a new house, perhaps a timberframe, but no bigger than I really need. I would also spend a tremendous amount of time travelling.

I would certainly, seriously, consider changing the two front tires @ my old Toyota Corolla (they are getting a little worn) and perhaps take it in for an oil change instead of doing it myself. Man that would be the life...

Since I was spending so much on my dream house last year, I figured why not start leading the good life. So last month I bought four brand new tires and a new Sears diehard battery, whoopee! Let the good times roll.

Yea, why cross thread the drain plug when some else can do it for you?

None! Only one of them had an unpluggable leak, too. I'm one wild and crazy girl...

They were six years old and conventional wisdom has it that tires eventually start to rot even if you don't put much mileage on them. Honestly I thought about buying a new car instead of dropping $$$ on those extra huge tires. But, I couldn't find a car that I wanted any more than my annoying nanny car 2009 Venza.

Walked the pooch up to the store - bought butter, eggs, and a powerball ticket. This baby is mine!

I'd bail my cousin out of his mom's estate Medicaid bill and set him up with a nest egg. Not sure about other extended family and friends. Too many behavioral issues there. Which is why I want to remain anonymous.

I will buy a ticket, for the entertainment value of thinking about it.

Of course, one's chances of winning are about the same if you buy a ticket or not!
