For us, our alcohol tolerance is pretty low. 2-3 oz of wine or 4-6 oz of beer is all it takes for me to get a light buzz. Same for DH. I guess it's because we drink in such small quantities or maybe our low starch diet. Probably both. Anyway - noticed our alcohol tolerance has gone way down over the past decade (during retirement).

And we always drink with food too. Needless to say we always share the beer or split the glass of wine.

(I just can't imagine putting away the quantities mentioned here! - can't do it, I'd be totally out of it).

My Doc told me to always drink with food. I find 10 meals a day kinda tough, but I'm coping as best I can.

On a more serious note, I also had a concern about increased drinking in retirement as I am in the habit of a glass of red wine each evening and at weekends a nippy sweetie or two. So far, no problems as we still get up early during the week to go to the Y, and the weekends still feel like weekends so it has been easy to keep to the same routine.

When I am not working (and at home), I do drink much at all. I anticipate moderation bordering on abstinence in retirement (if I ever get there). I hope a life of the gypsy engineer has not destroyed the liver by then.

In Canada, they have found that DWI (or whatever they call it here) declines rapidly with age. According to the table, I am a teetotaler at my age.

A special spirit, something like a single malt, or a Drambuie, Cointreau, Irish Cream etc
