What I need is more bacon, and fewer malcontent children, dang it!

Hey CalgaryGrunt, switch to decaf, it'll work better.

Urchina: I have heard some wild stuff about the Pan-American "highway" not the least of which that it is extremely dangerous and not much of a highway. I don't necessarily want to do the whole stretch like Tim Cahill (the author of Road Trip about his record breaking drive), but rather sample bits of it, starting with Mexico and Central America. Believe me, my DH is very nervous about even the idea, so who knows if we'll actually manage it. I wanted to take our old Airstream motor home, but he's sure the Shining Path will commandeer it for a field headquarters station.

I'm so glad you liked Merle's Door, I agree that the free-range dog idea doesn't work for us either, but I think I just enjoyed the idea that Merle had such a "say" in his life. So many folks want to control their dogs (and, apparently the threads they start) and expect rapt obedience, that it is refreshing to see his portrayal of a dog-human relationship based on mutual respect.

NewellCR, I gotta say, that is the first life list I've ever seen that included urination spots. Bravo!

Here is a thread from November 2006 where folks shared a lot of good goal lists in the spirit of your list:
http://www.early-retirement.org/foru...ide-23877.html

It inspired me to submit my "what I have already done since retiring" list:
http://www.early-retirement.org/foru...4&postcount=24

And then Cut-Throat went and topped my list! But what happened to Cut-Throat's original post? It's disappeared!

Sarah in SC. Thanks. It was a call-of-the-wild-thing that I kind of enjoyed the first time.

CFB. Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and several great (and not so great) lakes. I’ve been to the Pacific Ocean, but it didn’t move me… I imagine you are happy to hear that.

I step back out of lurk mode and step in my own bucket of stuff. What else is new. I hope the thread isn’t dead, oh, well.

Cheers,

Chris

Never dead, Chris, keep up the good work!
I determined on our trip to Mongolia in July that I used "natural toilets" 2:1 to indoor toilets thanks to our ambitious road trip from the bottom to the top of the country. And after being in a few indoor toilets, I infinitely preferred the outdoor variety.
I think your goal could be expanded to all the major bodies of water, please report back on your um, progress. Have you seen where the hell is matt.com?
Keep up the good work!

i just watched that movie...what a gem if you haven't seen it.

my bucket list is to have enough ideas to actually make a real bucket list. i think i shall start one in my email calendar with a reminder and add to it as ideas pop into my head.
1st idea...return to the island of Crete and stay for a year. the first and last trip was only 6 days long. Knossos was incredible.
