Changes in society - How not to predict the future.

I found this an interesting read. I personally believe we are on the brink of many significant advancements that could dramatically change society, hopefully for the better. Thoughts?

"Zeerust." That's a word that I've long sought. :-) Liked the article, although really nothing new our inability to deal with unexpected ramifications of change. For another take on future predictions, which tries to deal with those unknowns, this article gives a good introduction to Robin Hanson: Is This Economist Too Far Ahead of His Time? - The Chronicle of Higher Education

Imagine Hanson and Ray Kurzweil in a discussion....
