Awesome Worker Bee.

I still don't have my package, it comes next week, but I have zero work, so have my days off now. The HR person says I get 60 days plus severance. I thought it was 30+ so nice for me!

Very similar situation as mine. I was asked if I wanted to see the list of applicants for my job and first reaction was "who cares"
One that I knew was applying, and on the list was a former student from 5 years ago...he got it...very cool. Now I know I want to leave things in good order, not just chuck it and walk away. Less than 3 moths...it is getting harder each day, BUT it is easier to smile and laugh

Is it my imagination or do the problems and agrivations of the work place increase once one decides to retire?

BellBarbara,
Nice that you got the extra time. Hope the severance package is all you expect. Are you going in to the office for the next 60 days?
I have set my last day as 4/27. I think I will need to show up until then, except for some planned vacation. However, now that my retirement is out in the open, attitudes and project scope have definitely taken a turn toward the short term. That is ok with me.
Have you shifted your thoughts to what you will do, once the career is complete?

Chuckanut,
For me the agrivation about corporate BS was at its worst just before I made my final decision to leave. Now, I just endure what I continue to see with three thoughts...
1. I won't need to put up with this BS much longer.
2. I don't need to care about it anymore.
3. This all confirms my decision to leave.

Now I can focus thoughts on a pleasant future, though I am still formulation that vision as I go along.

DW just got a much better job in the town we currently live in. I told her I'd commit to working another two years here so she can get experience in her new job. Retiring at 56 doesn't sound as good as retiring at 54, but I think I can make it....

So you can move Masquernom from 2012 to 2014 now.

Updated my retirement to 9/12 from 7/12. In the long run that buys me a few extra $$'s a month which I will put towards health insurance. This will help insure that I don't have to substitute teach. I also took the liberty of removing Masquernom. (See above.)

OK. Went into HR yesterday and signed the paper that says I will retire at the end of the school year. I was nervous about it right up to about an hour before the appointment. Reran Firecalc the night before to make certain things were in order. Refigured my AA. Made sure the garbage was out and the cat was in. Talked to a trusted friend.

Now, I can't wait September, when I will rejoice at not having to get up at 5:15 AM!!

My last day of paid employment was February 29, 2012 . I was down to 2 days a week starting on Jan 1, 2012, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble or aggravation to keep that up. The money wasn't that great either.

Now I have unlimited time to do nothing, not finish in one day and then have to continue the next day . It's all kind of new, though I have been working towards it for some time. I suppose I'll get bored of sleeping until 10 AM every day, but not quite yet . I guess I will have time to do my taxes this year.

You can add me to the 2012 list.

Still planning to FIRE this year, but no date has been set yet. Was thinking of July 2012, and then I may w*rk part time 10-15 hours a month a different clinics. Not sure yet what's going to happen.

Beowolf,
Congratulations! I look forward to the day when I will have those same new retirement experiences (Specifically, on April 28, 2012).

Worker Bee, come April 29 you'll need to ask one of the admins to change your forum name to Ex Worker Bee...

I have never been fond of being a Worker Bee. On April 29, I will definitely be ready for a name change.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a new name? REWahoo has suggested Ex Worker Bee.
Any others?

Look at any hive. There are no retired worker bees, because they work till they die. Some folks shorten their names to keep some link between the two. How about WB?

OK package came. 16 weeks of pay, 8 on payroll, balance in lump sum. This is fine, I have only been there 4 years. I am not expected to work, only to transition (already done) and look for a job. There is an early opt out program, but I can't take advantage because I have to be on payroll to get my bonus, which is 4/15 or 4/30. They will also pay 3 months of cobra, but I am on my husband's medical. And of course they want to help me find a job so they don't have to pay me.

Ugh, they set follow-up meetings with me to see how my job hunt is going, and they are encouraging me to contact their recruiters.

Wish I could have done the opt out. I would still get all the money, but be totally out of there.

In other good news, Mr BellBarbara has decided to retire. He has a meeting with HR tomorrow to give the notice. He will stop in early May.

Totally excited !!!

So no plans to work at all - I set an out of office agent on my email account. ;-)

We have a couple of big projects we will do to start: remodel the master bath (we do everything but plumbing/electrical, and also a lot of yard work - some hardscaping, moving plants, etc.

We have a 15 year old dog, so no big trips while she is alive. Won't be long.

We have a 9 day trip to Tucson in a couple of weeks, and will do some other trips, probably Santa Fe (family there) and may the smoky mountains in the fall. We love to travel, especially roadtrips, and expect to do a lot of that.

Since I have stopped working 2 weeks ago, I have been working out almost every day, and have started decorating some rooms I never got to. (we moved here 2 years ago)

Lots to do!
