Class of 2012

Hi,

I just introduced myself in the "Hi, I am" forum but wanted to add myself to the 2012 class. I'm very excited to be giving my notice on 8/5 at age 43 and leaving after my 30 day resignation (or sooner if they don't need me to stick around).

I am taking the liberty to update the list with myself and also HighRoller, jwkde, Lazarus, xyz

Thanks for adding me in... 31 more work days to go !!

I have been transferred to the class of 2013. DH decided to retire in 2013, so "one more year" for me - unless my employer offers a nice package during the next months.
Enjoy!

A quick update for me. I told my boss I was giving my 30 day resignation in August when my 1 year anniversary of the company acquisition is. He wants to get me off payroll ASAP, as I've already largely transitioned all my duties to others.

So, the way it is shaping up, I may be walking out for the final time on 8/6...just a few weeks away.

I'm back..... I thought the DW was going to nix my plans but we just went to see her 83 y/o mother in a recovery hospital - where's she's been for a month - and it got her to thinking that maybe we SHOULD take advantage of whatever opportunity we have. I'm working on becoming a certified personal trainer (at age 58!) and have a small side business teaching licensing classes for the State so I'd still be bringing in some income. She likely would, too, just don't know how yet. She's faculty so she could possibly just cut back and not teach summers at all. Looking more like June of 2013 now!

Well the boss talked me into working thru the end of the year. I will still be in the class of 2012 but just a bit later than planned. Soooo 87 work days to go (lots of vacation left too).... The good news is the 5 short months (including a nice bonus) will add significantly to the nest egg!! I only accepted this offer as my health is improving nicely (blood pressure down and lost 25 pounds in 8 weeks) as I have really improved diet and exercise.

First day of retirement!

Today is the first day of retirement for me.

I have had a job since I was 13 and now am 55 this month. Still in shock, but I will get used to it.

Had some luck along the way. Never laid off or fired. Never divorced. Good health. Took a lot of planning but there is always an element of chance to it.

Congratulations, Lazarus!

Here's to along, healthy retirement!

I gave my employer six month notice that I intend to retire end of January 2013, but with vacation and personal days, my last day at work will essentially be 12/31/12. I'm not sure if this pushes me out of the class of 2012, but at least I feel relieved to finally rid myself of the one more year syndrome:D

Funny, my boss is already pushing me to see if I will stay longer:facepalm:

Unlike work, here you are free to choose for yourself. You can even change your mind about which class you want to be in. :D

Just added myself to the list. My first official day of retirement was yesterday, August 1st 2012 at the age of 53.

Congratulations AIR and welcome to the group of happy retirees!!:dance:

It felt very surreal walking out of my previous employer's building Friday.

That evening I was mentally exhausted from the good byes and the culmination of the anticipation of retiring. It was a bittersweet evening.

BUT, the next morning I woke up refreshed and rested. I was so happy and the whole day I walked around with my head in the clouds.

Just do it, if you are hesitant!

AIR

The 'Welcome Back' letters have been mailed out to the teaching staff. These are the ones that remind people of perhaps one paid day full of meetings and a week or two of unpaid days when the classrooms are open for work.

How nice to have not received one. :)

Looks like it's time to join the class.

Gave two months notice a month ago, so I'm retiring October 1, 2012 after 32 years (plus two weeks) in the IT world, at age 56.

Might take time to adjust to not having a paycheck for the first time since I was 16, but pretty sure it won't take much time to adjust to not having to work. No more project deadlines ...

October will be busy, with a baseball tournament to play in Phoenix and another in Las Vegas, along with helping my daughter move from DC to Chicago. Heck, I might not even notice that I'm not working. Just a vague sense of something missing.

Wow, your first post and BOOM you're retired!

That was a " Short Stop."

Yeah, my first trip into these forums ... although I've used FIRECalc for quite a while, read Retire Early Home Page and the Motley Fool retire early forums for a long time.

Pulling the plug has been a goal for a long time; it's been a long career with the same company most of the way, but now it's tedious and repetitive, time to move onto something else.

And now figuring out what I want to do when I grow up is the major task on the horizon.

Congratulations AIR and Shortstop!

Keep us posted on your new life---as you get yourself back. :)
