The local leagues are either NABA or split NABA / MSBL. And some guys go to Florida to play Roy Hobbs tournaments.

The night games can be a struggle for aging outfielder eyes, that's for sure. The lights aren't exactly major league quality on the fields here.

I'll keep playing until I can't get out there without embarrassing myself. (Some games that point appears closer than others.)

Shortstop, congratulations! You have done two great things - First, opened up a new phase of life for yourself, and, Second, opened up a job opportunity for a younger person. Nice job.

I was a pitcher and started to not see my spots or the signs with clarity. What was more embarrassing was not being able to read curve balls from the better pitchers. Maybe if I went to contact lenses that might have helped, but I was never able to get used to those

Thanks ...

Of course, being in IT, there's a reasonable chance that I'm more likely to be opening up three jobs for young developers in India. The last few years of my career has been mostly translating business requirements for developers there. Maybe a greater good for the global marketplace, in the end.

Started my pitching career at the age of 54, just looking to add some versatility and extend my playing career. Still mostly an outfielder, since I can run moderately well. I always say that I can produce sub-average performance at any position on the field.

The two-strike curveball in the dirt is my nemesis, surest way to get me out. The pitching in our over-35 local league is pretty tough, some ex-pro and ex-college pitchers. But in the over-50 and over-55 tournaments, I can still light that pitching up.

Congratulations - has to be a good feeling to have it all behind you.

One more month for me - think it will be more like a victory lap.

Now I believe it!

It is the first day of classes at my former school district. Students are flooding into the classroom as I write this. Teachers are straightening their piles of paper they hand out on the first day. Administrators are trying to be everywhere at once. Parents are holding the hands of little 6th graders who fear the first day of middle school.

I am eating a leisurely breakfast.

Nice! Yes, I have been having the same feelings over the past few weeks since I retired.

I am sitting out on the deck of our beach house right now, watching a few surfers struggling to get through the breaking waves. At this same moment my former colleagues are all in soul crushing meetings about this or that corporate dog and pony show. While I sip my orange juice. Life is good!

And our area is in gridlock with all the school buses, people back from vacation, etc. And I get to watch it all on TV .

56 work days to go... What an odd feeling.. I feel like I am half in and half out of my job winding down but still have a few more months of focus. One key reason I am retiring is that I want to get back into shape ... I have now lost 36 pounds in 3 months !! It won't be too long now...

That's a pretty impressive weight loss.

Understood and congrats! These jobs are so stressful. Either you lose or gain too much weight. In any case, these jobs are often killing us.

I've lost 60 lbs since retirement and have more to lose. My health is getting better everyday. I'm on My Fitness Pal as 'LadyBeryl' if you want to add me as a 'friend'.

I was planning on class of 2013, but managed to engineer a severance package early. Kudos to financial samurai. FIRED 3 days after my 57th birthday, so add me to the list.

Congratulations on the retirement with severance package.

I'd have liked to pull that off, but just got tired of waiting.

Six more work days for me ...
