Next to last day! Almost all my personal stuff is out of the office. It's a little bit scary. I will still have a few things to finish up on, but I'll do them as an independent contractor/consultant and I will get paid for any of that. My suspicion is that I won't feel like doing that very much.
And here's the really odd thing about my "last paycheck", which I'll get tomorrow. We have company cars and I'm taking my company car with me. The accountants treat the transfer of title as a "bonus" and the bookkeeper here wants to withhold on the difference between the value and the loan balance (which I've paid off personally), so that my net check will be zero.
How cool is that? My entire last paycheck of my working career will go to the government.

I told my boss that I want to leave June 1st 2013. she heard "end of June". talked to ma bout staying to end of year at part time. still negotiating with higher ups. I'm a bit in limbo and working to transition my duties to others. Who would have thought that extracting yourself would be so difficult!

My last day as a "normal" employee is tomorrow, but I'm not going in. I start my 1-2 day a week gig on Monday with the same company. I need to finish a little training, do some qa/qc and be on call to put out fires for a while. All is well. Bike is in for a tuneup and I'm getting a kayak soon.

I'm done. Gonna leave here in about 10 minutes and start the rest of my life. I'm not sure why, but I'm kind of delaying my early departure for no good reason. My desk is clean, my personal stuff is out of the office and I'm not doing any work. I've got the few things that are kind of heated up that I'll hopefully deal with from home in the next few weeks and then we're off to the NC mountains.

How exciting - seeing the dreams turn into realities ! Congratulations. Can we start a "2013 Alumni" thread started by the first 2013 retiree ? I can't tell who was the first to actually retire. Will have to go back and look. I'd love to see what early "post retirement" is like as I live vicariously through y'all.
