DH has 40 workdays left to go, and he's pretty much so excited he can't stand it. We leave for a massive road trip just a few days after his last day, so he'll have very little downtime to adjust to leaving the job.
Congrats to all of you!!

Thanks - DW has pension reasons to wait until 2014, so it makes sense for me to stretch it out until then (but I envy you 2013ers)

I announced my retirement date at w*rk yesterday! Was giddy and smiling all day long. Though it is 8 months from now (I'm a department head and we need to do some longevity planning), I wanted to make real for me. Now it is not just a concept - it's reality!!!! Folks were already asking what kind of party I wanted.

The average of all those with ages posted (46 out of the 49 retirees of the class of 2013) is 54.6 years old. Mighty impressive!!

I just got home from a nice retirement party after which my mom asked if I was sad. I answered in a word - No. I was more than ready even though over those 34 years, there were many more good days than bad, and I enjoyed most of my duties. It was a great place to work and I enjoyed the autonomy I accrued over the years.
Sooooo happy for you! Congratulations!!!!
Here's to the next phase of your life, Yeah

Between handing over some of my management roles and not being staffed on projects that are likely to run past my 30 September retirement date, for all practical purposes I am now working part time and am keeping a few books in the office to fill in the spare time - the last five months are shaping up to be the least stressful of my career.
