This is how I am spending my first two weeks of ER! Some good books, good whiskey, good naps and peace and quiet :-) Sebago Lake State Park in Maine.

I should have posted to this thread sooner since the decision was made months ago. My last day of work will be July 11, 2013. It was a good gig while it lasted but things changed and not for the better. An almost 50% pay cut will happen July 15 and the new contractor seems to regard employees as expendable fodder. I learned 40+ years ago to bail when that happens.

Most, like me, are retired law enforcement from somewhere else and about half are leaving too. The overtime situation is gonna get ugly since the required security clearances take months to get. I didn't mind a little now and then but have no desire for 60+-hour weeks.

I feel for the guys who have to stay because they're still living paycheck-to-paycheck and are up to their eyeballs in debt. So I brought in a motivational poster for them. Yeah, I know, I need to go back to sensitivity training.

Exit Interview at 8 AM

This is my last day at w*rk. Still hasn't completely sunk in. When I have fleeting moments that I'm actually retiring - it seems almost like a dream. It's been a goal for what seems so long that I thought it might never get here.

After today, I guess I should change my tag line.

Went on vacation on April 26, and Saturday was my last day vacation. Sunday I officially FIREd. The transition time was a bonus; I was merely on vacation, then just didn't go back. The vacation continues...

First day of FIRE'd life started on 1 June as planned. Been so busy since then that I haven't had time to read/post anything here until now!

Just landed from my final "flying" business trip. Things seemed to look different when I landed. It was easier to breath.

Hoping to get my name added to this list... and get a severance package as well.

My division was recently sold off. Our new corporate overlords budgeted a fairly large some for "synergy costs" - of which a good portion is presumed to be severance and other exit costs. As part of the sale, the old corporate overlords made them agree to honor the old severance policy for 1 year from close. I presume this package is more generous than the much smaller new corporate overlords package. So I have incentive to get cut the first year if I get cut.

I'm over this place. Stick a fork in me.

I was talking (speculating) to one of the bosses (not my direct boss - but kind of the regional lead) about the layoffs. I volunteered to put my name on the list. He got very serious and said "You better be certain, don't do this if you don't mean it." I assured him I was certain.

With luck, I'll be on that list in the next few weeks.

I might get a part time job... or not. We'll see. But after 18 years here, about 10 corporate changes (spinoffs, mergers, acquisitions, sell offs... ) I'm SOOOO over this place.

So... hoping to add my name to the list soon. And took an action to let the powers that be know I'd welcome a layoff.

OMG, I can't believe I have ONE WEEK left!

And naturally, I'm being slammed with 11-hour workdays. As if I needed any more confirmation that FI/RE is the right decision.

Excellent -- wouldn't want to second guess yourself if things were going nice and easy at the end.
