Wow -- we're closing in fast on 100 FIRE-ees and we're not even halfway through the year yet!

Only 2 more work days for me....

One week of financial independence behind me. Still decompressing, wondering where my to do list is. There isn't one!

Added 90 days to initial end of March last day, taking lots of PTO and now have 5 workdays and one Monday to go. So ready!😊

I am happy to say hello to you all. Living in northern California, age 61, I will be retiring in early September after working for over 45 years.

Happy to be on board...

#26 update

Gave formal notice on June 8
Transitioning over the next couple of weeks.
Last day should be July 10.
Age 59 and 2/12ths
Wife is done with her part time job.
Time to stop talking about it and get on with our lives

Tomorrow I head out for a meeting with our clients. Driving on Wednesday, one short meeting on Thursday, one 5 minute speech of Friday and I head home. Then it is three days in the office before I FIRE!!! The office days will be easy as the transition is complete!

OMM (one more month). Looks like it's August 1st rather than July 2. Only semi-retiring, which doesn't qualify, for the purists. But it qualifies for me. DW is already in Reno.

Please add this 57 year old to the list. My retirement day is 7/10/15. After working full time in the IT industry since age 19, I am done. I am giddy with excitement and relief that I do not have to deal with silly deadlines and useless work. Volunteering, house projects and traveling top the list. A special thank you to Ma Bell for giving me a good pension!

Please add this 52 year old to the list. Yesterday I gave notice to the landlord of my office lease. I am giving up 2/3 of my space to scale back my business and cut hours down to 20 per week. I am a recovering workaholic, working to transition into part time on my terms and hours with plenty of vacation time planned starting on 9/1/15. Woohoo!

I gave notice and will officially retire on July 30, 2015. I'm 47. DH will continue to work so in some circles, I'd be considered a stay at home wife. I actually don't give a rip about a title as long as it doesn't involve work. :)

I had originally planned to stay working until age 50 but after a series of bad days, I pulled the plug. I have 17 working days left and only 4 more dreaded Sunday blues!

(Oh and this was my first post but I've been reading since May!)

kerik68, congratulations! Hopefully they won't be the "Sunday blues" knowing that there are so few left.

4 days into retirement and I am getting relaxed! It is better than expected!

OOPS....what happened?

It's not official (I have to submit my retirement to the governing board) but I think it is time. 27 years in the school district- the last 11 as an AP and a principal. I was originally planning on June of 16, but I can take an ER (end of contract in June, 2015) now with a 7% reduction in my pension.
I am not sure you should put me on the list quite yet, but you can pencil me in :

erkevin June 30, 2015 age 51

Well, here i am in July of 2015- still at work! The ER thing did not happen and I signed another contract. How did that happen:confused:?

I need professional help............

Some people just like to work, Best of luck with one more year.

There must be a good reason you signed another contract. Enjoy the additional (maybe last) year!

OMY. You also make a difference in the lives of children. My reason for being an independent contractor.

My son's elementary school principal was the greatest thing since sliced bread, as were his dedicated teachers.

Thank you for all that you do. But please feel free to retire next year!

Thank you-
I opened a new elementary school two years ago and i feel I haven't gotten it to where it needs to be (for the children and staff). My wife says that i don't come home from work bitter or angry so i must not be ready to retire yet!
My goal is to retire before that happens

Welcome. I didn't think about the fact that I'd be considered a homemaker until I filled out some paperwork and if you don't have a job it assumed I was a homemaker. Enjoy retirement, however, you may end up working more than you think.. at least for me I know cook much fancier and nicer meals as I have the time.

pulled the plug feb 14.
plane ticket feb 15 to my new house in az.
Every morning I wake up, i am sooo happy. I have not had one day that I regret I don't have to work
I am a little on edge that my portfolio has had a significant decline (not huge) starting the day I retired.
Not even the slightest thought that I will ever work again. I love every day, and every thing I do.

I can't believe I'm posting this, I've been a long time lurker. Intense dreamer of retirement. Its happened!
Loving it, but in the back of my mind I think I'm going to wake up and realize it was a dream.
NOT

That's funny... a month after I retired, our house was randomly selected to be one of the Census Bureau's survey homes. So now, every month, I get to talk to a very nice lady, and each time I debate whether to have her put down that I am "retired" or a "homemaker", and the same for my wife. (Given we have a preschooler, my wife would say she is definitely not "retired", and nor am I allowed to be "retired".)
