Well what a week. I reached my 15th year with my current company, and was presented my voluntary layoff package 👍the day before leaving on vacation from now until February 15. On the way down to Palm Springs 😎from Seattle I lost my wallet, my wife lost all her keys and the market decided to not behave very well.😖

Literally one hell of a way to FIRE. The stress from having to negotiate all new credit cards debit cards and three separate banking accounts while traveling out-of-state was stressful enough. But hopefully things will now have a base to get better.

I'm not sure what to state for a final date for my retirement, but February 15 is my last official day of work 😅followed by nearly half a year of continued service under a severance package with benefits covered.

In other words, I was fired while reaching FIRE👌. (Took one for the team)

Big week here: put my official paperwork in designating my retirement date and the date my pension commences. Realized I am under 100 work days left (on my contract). In speaking to HR, reminding them of date of separation, it was brought up that maybe they would pay me for a few weeks/month more until my replacement is in place. I stated that that was why I was in HR- to remind them to begin the search!

Boss hinting at me staying past my April 28 departure date. I don't think she'll bother doing that again.

If you've got a cash cushion to carry you through market turmoil, and you should, the noise in the market now should delay your departure.

Retired last week. Have at least two years probably more like three, of cash to supplement DB pension, which I get starting today. So, although the market (plus some regrets about leaving many of the people but not the work) did give me some concern, eventually realized this situation is exactly why I held the cash in the first place. Already so busy wonder how I ever had time for work, particularly in the last few years when I had had quite enough and was more than ready to go.

Thanks, wmc1000. I had requested no organized formal events last week. These always seemed so phony to me, especially with mgmt involvement. And was respected in this regard, which was a great relief. Once the word got out of my last week amnog friends. one set up an informal lunch off site with a half dozen people, a couple of whom dated back to my early days in a non-mega corp when my industry was actually fun and challenging to be in, before all the consolidation. So, what a joy that simple lunch was. That, and the various e-mail and IM congratulations from friends and colleaugues from all over made my last couple days hectic (with all the additional work that seems to pop up at the last minute in these transitions for retirement/transfer and such) but it was also a satisfying and fun way to go out.

My DH's last day of work was last Friday. He may or may not do a bit of part-time consulting in the future, but is pretty adamant about not wanting to work for anybody as a salaried employee again.

I was in the class of 2015, but there is a chance I may go back to work this year to give us a bit of a financial cushion while we are selling our apartment in Beijing and figuring out what the next stage of our life is going to look like. We do have about 2 years of expenses in relatively liquid investments, and can tap DH's retirement accounts and Roth contributions if needed. It is nice to have options.

That says it all in my case. Nearly 30 years of 10-12 hour days and certainly no overtime. Never again!

I gave notice of my resignation for early retirement last week. The boss was very positive and gracious. I provided about 50 days notice as my boss (and I) have some days out of the office between now and 4/1. I could go any day really, but am now adjusting to projects and direct reports being redistributed in our group and starting to play a "consultant" role.

I am about to turn 62 and 7/12 years old and as I watch my retirement funds decline my impulse until last week was to hang on another year or two. Last week I was diagnosed with a melanoma in the nail bed of my index finger. One doc says the finger has to go and another says maybe not. I am going to try to save the finger. All of this has me wondering how much longer I want to spend in a cube.

Could have gone earlier but it would have been tight. Have 5 years in cash (i know to much) at that lets my wife sleep well. We're self employed so just working part time before we exit the workforce.
