DW and I will retire at the end of the 2016 ski season to begin our new lifestyle in retirement. On 4/1/2016, we will begin a 10 week motorhome trip to the east coast and back. In the meantime, we will be downsizing homes and fixing up (and learning to use) the 10 year old motorhome.

I love getting through those annual events, thinking "this is the last time!" Also, new boss is turning out to be difficult, but I don't care - I'll never need her as a reference! Also thinking of leaving a month earlier, but won't change the date just yet. Cheers, Class of '16!

My Big Accomplishment This Week

Although I have not put my papers in yet (contract does not end until June 30, so no rush) for retirement, I have set my retirement date (June 4). I am owed quite a bit of time off, personal and sick. I should have my contract days fulfilled by June 4.
What I did this week was book two weeks in Puerto Vallarta beginning June 10. This allows a few days of wiggle room in case I have to pave the way for the new admin (assist with hiring, budget, scheduling).
So my plan is: walk out on June 4th, celebrate my wife's birthday on June 5th, celebrate our anniversary on June 6th, pack and head to Mexico. This time without a w&%k email account, a w%#k cellphone and no dilemmas hanging over my head (like every other vacation in the past 10 years).

However, June is a long way off...................................

10 more months for me. I had a manager from New York ( Corp office, but I usually don't have to deal with them) call on one project I hoped would be wrapped up that I had minor involvement in. $hit had hit the fan on an issue he could have prevented months ago had he more competence. My BS bucket flooded and I was tempted to just call it a game, but common sense prevailed. Time is ticking by at normal speed since I'm staying busy and have both weekly and quarterly personal goals established and am on track. That helps a lot. Putting up with BS from others that could be avoided (especially unexpectedly) is now harder than ever.

140 w*rk days to go. The BS bucket just keeps getting heavier and heavier, and I don't know how much longer I can carry it. I keep telling myself this is just a borrowed bucket and I'll be giving it back to the real owner soon!

Wow Scrinch-
You have been on this board for 9 years- kudos for the self-education! But wasn't it somewhat torturous waiting that long, reading about other's happiness?

You know....I just developed the typical nine-more-years syndrome! No, I began thinking about ER back then when I left Megacorp following a takeover. But DW did not see ER the same way, and so we've spent this much time getting on the same page. Now we agree about the 2016 target date and trying out not-so-ER. In the meantime we've more than doubled the nest egg, to the point where we will have a lot of financial flexibility in retirement.

Reading about others' happiness...has been motivational and and has been frustrating. If I had known in 2006 that I would still be reading about others' freedom in 2015 (and not my own), I'm not sure I would have stuck around all this time.

With last week's downturn, how is everyone feeling about 2016? I was out of town last week, and away from my Big Spreadsheet o' Freedom. I couldn't wait to get back to plug in the numbers to see if my plan was holding up. . I am pleased to report that I am still good to go despite the correction. If it turns into a total bloodbath, I'll reconsider, but so far so good.
