Wow - that's a very short turn-around time! Here's hoping you have a great and safe hike! Hope you can drop in here now and again for some updates.

Add my name to the list. Last day is April 7th at the ripe old age of 59 and 4 days. That still qualifies as RE, right?

In my view, if you are still breathing that counts as ER [emoji3]

Walked out of the office today for the last time. I'm happily retired. It's surreal. Mixed emotions. Not about retiring. Just so much change all at once. I leave Saturday for my big hike. Between that and retirement I find my self saying, 'well that's the last time I'll do such and such' a whole lot.

Anyway, my first post in this thread was in July 2012. Stayed the course. Made it to 55. Retired. Ready for all the new chapters.

And a special thanks to this ER community and the good folks here for the (often) great advice, counsel, experience, and examples.

Muir

Congrats! Pacific Crest is the hike?

(We are doing 8 weeks in Peru about 1.5 months after our last days; not PCT, but will be our first trekking....)

Hopefully, in a month or two, you will no longer have mixed feelings!

I'm 60, so I hope you qualify. The end of June is my target date.

Congrats! Looks like we both picked the same April 7th job finish / ER start line, although you beat me age-wise by 6 months. At least for myself the joy and freedom gained from voluntarily walking away from a well paying, comfortable (if not rewarding) job with good benefits long before the crutch of SS kicks in qualifies as ER. I was ready (emotionally, if not quite financially) to retire early(er)4 years ago but a mother rapidly succumbing to dementia and loss of eyesight led me to reconsider selling out and moving to Panama. Instead, I "re-evaluated" my life and left my job of 28 years working for a mega-company I no longer respected. After decompressing for a couple of months I accepted a similar position to work for a family owned company in a much healthier environment. These last 4 years I maxed all saving opportunities and paid off all debt including the mortgage while I cared for and comforted my Mother. Sadly she passed away late last year but left me with the opportunity and ability to join the FIRE class of '17.

Unfortunately I hesitated and delayed ER several more months until a recent heart attack reminded me where my priorities needed to be. I'm new to the class and still have much to learn but I'm happier and healthier than I've been in years!

Graduation Day

Today is my first official day of retirement. Now I'm just waiting for the dust to settle on the financial side, so I can implement my budget plan and get down to some serious retiree stuff.

Congratulations to everyone who has FIRED so far in 2017! Enjoy!

Please remove me from the list for May 2017 - and re-enter me for May 2018 (age 62). Yes, OMY! But it's my first mulligan....(should there be a rule you can only OMY once?). I'm hoping its sooner rather than later. I recently posted my update on the Introduction Forum.

In a nutshell, I've hit my target $ goal, and I left MegaCorp a few months ago to join a boutique type of firm in my industry three months ago to help them grow their business. I knew the people - so thought I'd give it a shot.
