Curt Gowdy dies

I can remember old Curt describing Joe Namath going back for a pass, in Super Bowl III, just like it was yesterday!* Takes me back to my childhood. Or was it my teen years? I wish they had more like him today.

And Mel Allen, Phil Rizzuto. Could I really be that old?

Hey, it was 61 Homers in 1961.

BTW - When I was in the Navy in Central Florida, Roger Maris was our Beer Distributer for the Navy Club for our little 200 man Navy Facility in the Ocala National Forest. This was in 1974

Re: Curt Gowdy dies

Since we're reminiscing, do you remember Marlin Perkins? He was the old geezer on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. I always enjoyed watching that on Sundays. Time flies, I read where NBC dropped it in 1971. A syndicated version ran several years after that however. Marlin died in 1986.*

"This is very dangerous", as Marlin would say, while sidekick Jim wrestled a water buffalo... :P

I can remember when Gowdy would do Steeler games on TV.
He was blatantly anti-Steeler.

That used to crack me up. "Jim is going to interact with this 50 foot python", then he'd go off telling you a story while the snake wrapped around jims neck...a little while later...oops, lets go off to a mutual of omaha commercial while we save jim from being killed by the snake....

I can remember my parents blowing their stacks over of his comments. The 1970s turned out to be the wrong decade to bad-mouth that team...
