I think he's LBYM. Between his (alleged) rampant drug use, his consorting with the criminal element, and his success in poking his finger in the eye of "authorities" in Belize, I think he's done a good job of assuring his money outlasts him.

More news. Watch out for posting photos containing geolocation data. The cops aren't so backwards after all.

On Monday, Vice published a story titled “We Are With John McAfee Right Now, Suckers” and inadvertently revealed McAfee’s whereabouts in Guatemala via location data embedded in the photo. McAfee and Vice photographer King both claimed the photo had been manipulated to conceal his true location.

I love that McAfee claims a planted look-alike with a fake passport in his name was arrested in Mexico--he is living a screenplay in his mind.

I have lived abroad in various countries for over 5 years. One thing that I quickly learned is that you have to be more careful about choosing your friends abroad than at home. And that a certain subset of expats are running *from* something in their home countries.

Yep. Knew a guy who skipped out on six figures worth of credit card debt by running off to one of these third world mud puddles. Filing bankruptcy would seem a better choice.

He's lucky! I'm curious whether this will be the end of the story or not...

A Canadian television production house called Impact Future Media has reportedly secured exclusive intellectual property rights to the antivirus software pioneer’s story for film, print and TV. Brian Fitzgerald, the cofounder of Impact, told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday that “[McAfee] trusts that we will honor his life story in an honest and truthful manner.” THR also reports that Impact has ties to Chad Essley, the artist currently working on a graphic novel about McAfee.

Although it does look like he has basically lost his multi-million dollar house in Belize. I am sure the local government will put this place to good use, lol. Maybe this is a good argument for renting ;-)

He probably won't be able to meet his girlfriend, even in Mexico. For a Central or South American, getting a tourist visa to Mexico is almost as hard as getting a tourist visa to the USA. Too many people were using it as a gateway to get into the USA and so the Mexicans made it much harder several years ago.

Except now John will have to deal with several pending law suits, the reason he left the USA to begin with. Most having to do with crashing Aerotreks (bikes with wings and motors) and the death of person.

I didn't look at the link but from his photos, Hugh Laurie could play him without any makeup or special effects.

Oh and look: he's getting a TV special, too!
Do Police Really Think John McAfee Is A Murderer? Dateline Investigates - SFGate

On Friday, NBC's news show Dateline will air a two-hour special about the weird tale of John McAfee and his links to the murder of Greg Faull.

What more could there be to tell? For a man who went into hiding, McAfee did his darnedest to stay in the media the whole time he was on the run, including a jaunt in the jungle accompanied by two journalists from Vice magazine.
But Dateline says that its report won't simply rehash the stuff we know: a story that involves murder, drugs, sex, escape, lies, a faked capture, a pregnant woman, dead dogs, and all sorts of accusations leveled at the police, the media, and McAfee himself.
Dateline's Keith Morrison is looking into the murder itself and why police wanted to question McAfee about it in the first place. Morrison will share the facts now known about Faull’s death, and his parents efforts to pressure the Belize government into solving the case.
