Both husband and wife should be objects of envy. The husband, because he snagged a fine wife who can bring home the bacon and light his fire, and the wife, because she doesn't have to do 2 jobs - the paid one, plus the unpaid one of housework.
Gosh, the only better situation I can think of, would be one where neither husband nor wife has to work unless they really love working, while their paid household staff takes care of the drudgery.
