Yes, there is a time limit that they can have the meat available to customers. You should be fine as long as you shop at a grocery store that is part of a major chain. I do have a tendancy to stay away from marinated meat, not because of a bad experience, I just don't like it.
The stores have guidelines that they must go by and have inspectors that stop by with no notice.
