I am a wannabe surfer. It is a lot of fun for me now because I am on the part of the learning curve when every time I go out, I learn something new or get a little bit better, but surfing only 2 weeks every year in Hawaii, there definitely is a ceiling to my abilities. Last visit, I actually did a bit of SUP surfing and touring, which I enjoy just as much, if not more.

Thought I would revive this post and give an update. Went back to the islands this summer specifically to explore real estate and neighborhoods we thought we would like, and after some discussion with DW decided to reconsider other islands as well, so we spend a few days on Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island. Love Kauai too but never considered living there. Although we did have our interest in Oahu, we decided we loved it as tourists but may not want to live there... may have something to do with the fact it was our first time driving a car there, and all of the sudden it was not Paradise. We went to Maui, but did not find it affordable in the neighborhoods we were willing to live in. We went to the Big Island, and fell in love with the northern/Kohala coast-- Waimea, Hawi, Waikaloa, etc... We had been there before but never looked at these areas as place to live. We ended up making an offer on a condo in a resort development. It may not be our permanent place in Hawaii but I feel good that our foot is in the door, and for the next few years while I am still w*rking we can rent it out easily to offset the costs of ownership. So far in the first 2 months on a rental program, the income pays for all the recurring expenses, dues, taxes, mortgage, etc... so I could not be happier. Now I just have to RE.....

Congratulations on taking the plunge, and I'm glad that worked out!
