I have given notice to my partners and co-workers...

... and they have been uniformly gracious about it. First day of freedom is March 1. Everyone seems genuinely surprised, some even shocked. ("Do you have enough money?" "What are you going to DO all day?") But they have been kind, and the off*ce is abuzz as I type this.

Thank you to all on this board and to ER.org for helping to get me through this. In the past few days I have been having the classic OMY second thoughts, but re-reading a lot of these posts, and the support of my SO and a couple of friends, got me through to the point I needed to be: This morning I walked to the cliff's edge, saw the water about a mile straight down, held my breath... and jumped! (Okay, it was a board room door, not a cliff, but you know what I mean!)

March 1, here I come.

Congratulations.

I am a bit curious what you WILL do each day.

My wife is partially against the idea of me retiring early. She thinks it's just going to be 8-9 hours every day of me chasing her around the house with the kids gone.

That definitely is a part of our mutual early retirement plans! Too many years with too little time together so far.

Congratulations! I am going through the same thing yesterday and today, getting the same type reactions. Several have told me how envious they are, too. I know exactly how you felt walking up to the mental cliff and then taking the plunge. Good luck on wrapping things up!

Congrats Mo Money. The thing is...you get to decide what you do all day now. Before, it was your bosses who decided what you got to do all day. Gotta tell you my days are more full now than when I worked. Wonder how I ever got along working. Good luck with all your new adventures!

Congrats! But did people really ask if you have enough money? Seems like a prying question to me.

Yep. The guy (one of my law partners) was just so shocked. He dropped his briefcase and his jaw simultaneously for theatrical effect, then said "Why? How? Do you have enough money?" But he was well-meaning. He is struggling financially. Very nice guy, though.
