American History is one big . fairy story, manipulated to the point it is one big lie.

Lincoln, reputed to be Homosexual,* broke all the laws, to grab the wealth of the South, the story about freeing the Negro was made up, a hundred years later, a Black Minister did what hundreds of thousands of dead could not.

Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, Kennedy etc , all crooks , but they have the right spin doctors.

Poor Nixon, he didn't have Kennedy's good looks.

The British* were never defeated, what was defeated were German Mercenaries

Do any of you see the parrallels between the US action and the Iraqui situation, nice* uniforms versus hit and run guerillas, a differant King George.

Americans are not taught about the War of 1812, because they lost, Washington was burned to the ground.
Whoa! I imagine you had to wipe the screen off when you were done with this one! German Mercenaries (Known as "Hessians") made up about 1/3 of British troop strength. While some of the more famous battles involved Hessians, like the dawn raid after Washington crossed the Delaware, there was majority Limey a** beating going on.

While the White house was set on fire during the war of 1812, the fire was put out well before it burned to the ground, an interesting side note, during the refurbishing in the late 1980's, those scraping the old paint off found scorch marks from that firing nearly 200 years earlier. That war ended with England suing for peace, capitulating to our demands, but that letter from the King did not reach his Generals until the Brits got one more beat down up in the New Orleans area-that battle propelled Andrew Jackson to stardom and his eventual Presidency. The British Navy left stung with the knowledge the American ships won most of the single ship duels, some of them by a "humiliating margin".

Now Canadians actually came out looking quite good, repelling the U.S. invaders who thought they would be looked upon as liberators, and gained a sense of national identity, I think that's when Quebec/French Canada decided to more fully associate itself with it's English speaking neighbors...

On the original topic, is anyone else excited about the state of the country, and dying to live there, and thankful that at least one country has taken on the responsibility of leading the civilized world in all domains of human endeavor? It gives one hope for the future of and admiration of humanity.

Alas but I am not the least excited and I am not 'dying to live here'. I could have done so quite easily some 30 years ago but chose not to.

As to having taken on the responsibility of leading the civilized world in all domains of human endevour I would say you are very much 'gung ho' about the good ole USA. However, others outside its borders (and I suspect many within its borders) do not exactly share your enthusiasm.

As we say in these parts 'chacun son gout'.

PS .. the USA has many good things going for it but no need to put it on a pedestal.

Limey:

I agree with you.

Keep in mind that Cool Dood (being from Canada and with a particular point-of-view) made one of those left-handed comments to induce more nonsensical discussion.

Lets get back to Boobs and WalMart... The important stuff

C'mon guys, give Max a break he just gets a little excited every now and then. Maybe we can learn more from criticism than praise. And anyway no one really likes the big bully kid on the block, especially in this case a guy from the country that was the big bully kid on the block for the previous couple of hundred years.

Team, all of History is a lie, from Coeur de Lion, Stalin, mao etc.

We are all still Serfs, the Lords still live in Castles, our kids are shipped out to die, and we still march for a rag on a Flag.

Nothing has changed.

But don't the serfs live better than the kings did 100 years ago?

Oops, I completely missed it at the time, but I guess it's in poor taste to say "dying to live there" when there are many people who literally are dying to live in America.
