I'm not sure anyone missed me, but I just wrapped up my long threatened move from Texas to the Missouri Ozarks.
Much to my shock our TX home sold the second day it was on the market.* Sold to a Texan, so that means one of you Californyuns on the Texas waiting list can cross the border.* No pushing please.
We hunted houses everyday for 5 weeks.* The road to a lake/mountain home ain't an easy one. So many bad septics, subdivisions ready to implode, and bad surveys.* I was about ready to go for the 12 month condo lease (we stayed in luxo condos courtesy of unused timeshares while we shopped) when a new home was placed on the market.* It was 90% complete and pretty well filled the bill although I swore I'd never buy another "new", new home.
This is the week I relieve myself of our $400 storage bill as the furniture begins arriving.* Hope to be settled in my new trading room just as the market turns.
Hope to share some lessens learned from this great adventure and gain some tips about mundame stuff like, what's a septic ?- -how do I finish a basement?--and do I need to feed all those deer in the backyard?* and oh yes, why am I the only dude over 50 without a Harley?

how do I finish a basement?
That's easy enough. *But you'll have to get more specific. *There are lots of ways to do it.

and do I need to feed all those deer in the backyard?
God, No. *You will soon come to think of them as giant rats. *They will eat your garden, eat your foliage, eat your young trees. *Feeding them does not discourage this behavior. *It only makes them reproduce more rapidly.

Obviously, you just haven't had time to shop for one yet.

Don't feed the deer if you want to keep your landscaping plants like they are - the little buggers will eat just about anything that grows.
Nice 'Vette!
How were the subdivisions you looked at in danger of "imploding"?
Let us know how the transition goes. I'm looking at a lot of possibilities of new digs and the Ozarks are pretty high up on my list. I'm curious as to how you like it up there.

I believe the pad in the UHaul picture was the last shrine rest stop before leaving Texas.
I looked into a VIP enclosed hauler for the Vette.* $1300 - $1500.
For 800 miles--I don't think so.
UHaul car trailer $110 on my mastercard
Seeing all the folks driving beside it while the DH explains to the DW what it is---Priceless 8)
The pic below was taken about 200 feet back.* That's as far as the lot has been cleared and as far as I'll go without the company of a Canadian Mountie.
Do you have to mow that lawn on the hill? Or does it stay naturally short?

Your ability to recall past posts as you do is nothing short of amazing.* Just how close do you live to that TX nuke plant??
Dog52---The link provided by REW pretty well sums up my reasons for moving.* That was a decent story when I posted it, so I'll stick with it.* I will admit that 10 years ago we were set on the TX hill country, but since that time it has gone way down on the desirable list.* We also came close to moving to the FL/AL coast, but two years of hurricanes really changed the region.* Housing bubble, cost of living, over building etc.
Sheryl--and others who knew Molly--The last meaningful thing I did in Texas was spread some of her ashes and seed bunches of wildflowers along the trail we frequented.

Thanks for that Bob Villa moment Martha!!* I had to look up hipped roof which I gather is a roof with 4 sloping sides--yes?
I'll have to post a frontal shot to see if it still qualifies as hipped.
Yup, the grass all needs to be cut.* However, I noticed the other day that the deer were doing a number on the steepest part 8)--keep up the good work girls!!
Beautiful home! I'll bet you're not gonna miss this Texas heat......seems like it bothers me more as I get older. I'm just south of Dallas.
I feel like I've seen that vette (or pics of it)......either at some event/show.....or maybe one of the vette forums. really nice looking ride! 8)

I hope the happy memories are starting to take the place of the sad, JP.
I lost Rufus in June too - not sure if you read that or were already AWOL.

Last time the vette was in your area (besides passing through on that truck) was two years ago when I was in the Waco/Temple area.* Now if you go way, way back, it ran a bit at the FtWorth drags back in the days of guys like Gene Snow and his funny cars.*
