Leaving LinkedIn-did you?

Sort of a weird topic, but for those who had an account on LinkedIn during your w**k years, once you retired did you close the account or maintain a presence?

I have been FIREd for 3 years now, but never removed my account. I feel like its the final step to "really" being retired. Almost like "maybe I will end up going back". Sounds silly I know, but I wonder if anyone experienced this?

I kept it for a while to keep track of former co workers but eventually lost interest and cancelled my account

Interesting, I know I won't go back yet somehow I've kept mine.

Of course, I changed the PW after their last hack, and have no idea what it is anymore (even google doesn't have it for me), so I might just leave it out there rather than bothering.

I kept mine for a few years after retirement, but they started spamming me and none of the settings I tried stopped the spam. So I deleted my account.

Never had an account there.

When I was working, it was an advantage to be difficult for anyone outside my organization (especially news media) to contact. Those who genuinely needed to contact me, knew how to do so.

I keep mine because my former employees still occasionally ask me to be a reference and I want it to be easy for them to find me. Once that activity tapers off, I'll go ahead and close it.

Never joined. I got annoyed early at how many email invites I got to join, so I just set up a filter to block them all. By the time it came out, I knew I was going to finish where I was at, so no interest.

Never had an account there but do still receive an occasion invite from long ago acquaintances.

Basic rule:

If you didn't invite me out for beer and hot wings back then, I'm not going to be your LinkedIn friend now.

For those that have kept their account, did you change your "status" to retired? I haven't changed mine since I retired a year ago so it looks like I'm still working there (albeit unpaid)

I joined because I'm not great at keeping in touch and it was useful for finding people I needed to contact for work. I kept it after I retired for similar reasons. I deleted the account when some story came out about your information being misused.

I kept my account and changed the status to retired. Have a couple hundred connections that live in this area. Worked at the same company 31 years. It is interesting to read the posts of old coworkers. About 25 of us get together for lunch about once a year.

Well, no I did not close it... but also did not update it either...

It is still showing me working at a place I was laid off 5 years ago...

I have not opened it up in at least 3 years...

Kept mine while I was consulting PT, but deleted it when that died off. Don't miss it a bit.

Still on it even though no chance of going back to work. Just haven't canceled it yet.
