VOLUNTEER work- it will get her out of the house, give her a sense of purpose and she will meet new people- My mother was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, was an Airport Ambassaador, worked every community event that came along, served on several committees, and did fiil-in /vacation coverage at her old job- she was very busy, kept in contact with her old co-workers and and she met a lot of great new friends. She recently died of cancer after a short illness; there were over 400 people at ther memorial service- many of them were people whose lives she had touched in the activities outlined above.

Yup.
I'm not a fan of the "You need our help to retire" club, but if she's not averse to anonymous tough love from strangers over the Internet then these guys deliver it in large doses... for a suitable fee, of course:
My Next Phase - Personality Tailored, Non-Financial Retirement Planning, Counseling, and Coaching Services
Their claim to fame is helping people assess their personalities and to match them to the type of retirement activities they'd enjoy.
