My 3rd ER !

I've considered myself ER since March 2013. But as I mentioned several times here, in fact I was doing at-home consulting for my last company on a 2-day per week basis. It was a great deal for both of us.
Anyway, back in June 2010 I was laid off from my previous company and presumed that I was forcibly retired. Then I was hired in November 2010 and voluntarily gave my notice to retire in March 2013 (ER # 2). It was then they offered that 2-day consulting.
Well, it's been an interesting last month. My company filed for Chapter 11 due to owing Uncle Sam $95 million (!!) in unpaid payroll withholding taxes. Company likely doomed, but they have been making drastic cuts, selling off divisions, etc.
I just got the call, not that it was a surprise. So, I'm now at ER # 3! More time for running, cycling, babysitting the grandkids, etc. Gotta admit I hoped I could last just another 2 months or so, but no matter. Every paycheck since March 2013 was just found money anyway, for VERY easy w*rk. And don't think I don't appreciate how lucky I am to be glad to be let go, compared to many of my former co-w*rkers who need to find other jobs.

Congratulations!

Wow, your retirement history is complicated. Do you think that this is the last time you will retire, or do you plan to keep your eyes open for another job? "running, cycling, babysitting the grandkids, etc." sounds like lots of fun.

No running tomorrow! Major stoppage in my plumbing lines. So before I call a plumber or Roto Rooter I'll be making the attempt to fix myself (I'm a bit of a DIY'er). Tomorrow would have been my scheduled 2nd work day of the week, so I guess timing was kinda good.
And, except for the occasion insurance-class- teaching that I do, I have absolutely no intention of seeking any other paying position.

That's the great thing about RE, you get to do DIY work !!

If your repair is interesting or need advice , be sure to hit the repair forum and brag on your abilities

May not be a 4th.

Willful failure of an employer to pay payroll tax is a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison---as it should be. 95MM is one of the highest I have heard of. Normally such crimes occur at smaller companies. You may be visiting senior management in a very safe secure place.

+1. I was thinking the same thing. They routinely throw people in jail for that which is essentially stealing employees money. And $95m is outrageous.

1) My plumbing repair wasn't.........the repair attempt was a failure. Plumber comes on Tuesday for permanent fixes, Roto Rooter tomorrow to remove the blockage.

2) Regarding my former company's failure to pay those withholding taxes:
yes, the criminal exposure is obvious to many. To accumulate that large of a non-payment took enough time that one wonders about intent.

While I never suspected anything like this - ahem - oversight, I guess I was somewhat prescient. Prior to my giving notice of my retirement, I had posted a question here. I remember one responder taking me to task for this quote from that post: "I have only been with the company 2+ years, and have no love for the company." I didn't want to go into details, but even then I suspected questionable ethics; didn't realize it may have risen to downright illegal activities.
