My last day

On Wednesday I sat at a luncheon with my coworkers, and they were laughing at me because I am so cheap in their eyes. As they talk about all their new clothes from QVC and their new cars, I show up in my serviceble clothes, (clean and ironed of course) in my old standard Honda (better mileage). I had two pairs of dress shoes under my desk and wear sneaks in and out. I don't have a cell phone, my very nice but not extravagant paid for house is not full of junk.

Well guess who got the last laugh? When I gave my notice later that day, the company decided I could leave then and there, so I waltzed out. One of them called me later and was astonished I could leave work at age 52 when they are drowing in credit card, house and car payments etc. I had tried to explain to them the importance of paying yourself first, not paying interest on things like credit cards, tracking your spending and LBYM but they thought I was crazy. DH has three more years to get health bennies however if they give him an early out he will be able to take it. It will certainly be a lot less stress to only have one person working. I can take over a lot of the chores for him.

Anyway, what did I do all day?
Yesterday I took a very long walk, cleaned my hobby room to find all the things I have been saying I want to do, Started a nice book I had waiting, went to the pool and swam laps and cooked a leisurly dinner. Called my old in-laws to see what chores they have lined up for me as now I have more time to help them.

I can feel the stress flowing out of my body. Life is good.

Congrats! It sucks how some companies feel like they have to try and get in the last stab by saying you might as well go ahead and leave now. Doesn't show much class.

I've notice my stress level is much lower since I quite working. Life is good.

Several years ago a loyal employee of 25 years gave his notice. The CEO (a pushie saleman type) couldn't convince him to stay, so out of spite, he had him escorted out and barred from the premises. My co-worker had a useful but not critical position. The co-worker had some nerve trying to better himself.

It actually got better. They had the nerve to call me from a meeting this afternoon to ask me a question about which vendor was best for a certain process we did. I was on speakerphone so I was very nice but said I couldn't recall without the info on my computer.

One of my friends called me when she got home, she said it was all she could do to contain herself from laughing out loud as she was in the meeting. Of course, I gave her the info so she could look good Monday morning. No sense in her struggling needlessly.

Did I mention how few regrets I have to have gotten out of this organization!!!!

thanks for all the good wishes. I actually worked longer than I had to so that we would be able to pay for medical if necessary, and it was excruciating to say the least. But Dh can go at the first opportunity so it is really a great feeling.

Off for a nice walk with the dog and a pair of binoculars to check out the birds, I don't have to be a crazy person trying to get the housework done for a change over the weekend.

Reminds me of my last days at work.....I had the boss from hell and I couldn't/wouldn't take it anymore. When I left the building for the last time I was with the Admin clerk processing me out, I stopped and said I had to hear something. She got a puzzeled look on her face-I waited to hear the door click shut with the secruity lock click, from that moment on I could only enter that building/work area as a guest, no longer was I permitted entry. That click was the sound of freedom, since then I have been smilling. I noticed very few people have contacted me from work and I worked long hours with many of them. Almost all ties to the work life have ended; which is okay they have their problems and I have a life.

I see you have the right attitude from the start. I wish you well-believe it or not it gets better as time goes on.
