Quality of Life - Article in the Economist

A very interesting article from the Economist:

http://www.economist.com/media/pdf/QUALITY_OF_LIFE.pdf

Ranks countries with respect to quality of life. Especially for those who intend to settle down overseas, this piece is worth reading.

For alternative source of info:

http://hdr.undp.org/statistics/data/...ic_12_1_1.html

Every year UN calculated Human Development Index and rank countries accordingly. This link only point to the table summary, you will have to surf around their website to find out how they calculate it for every country on their list. Warning: it is quite extensive.

It might be a guide but I would take it with a big grain of salt. A large part of all these measures is subjective both in the elements chosen to measure and the rankings on at least some of the measures. Also, for an early retiree some factors don't matter or don't matter in the same way.

Another major factor for some would be the proximity of adult children and grandchildren.
A much as I like the English countryside, I would hate to be so far separated from my grandchildren.
