Stay tuned.

Uncle Mick,

I ER'd in Thailand, but my original intent was to ER in Texas -most likely San Antonio area- and then tippy toe my way into a Mexico ER.....

But SE Asia got me first, LOL.

Seriously, if/when I return to the US, SA is on the short list...

All the best,

Lance in Bangkok

Heh heh - map! we don't need no stinking map - in ER the world is our oyster. If we get a pang of doubt, there's always the Terhorst's or billy's webpage to read.

Two things:

1. Is anybody following Scott Burns series of articles on RV living/life style?

2. Is anybody doing/know anybody
doing anything along these lines?

Suffering a little memory twinge from our camper/RV days and thinking of a backup plan - being in Hurricane Alley.

Re: RV living in San Antonio, Tx

Hey a good backup is one of those pop-up campers. When I was a kid we travelled all over the eastern seaboard from prince edward island down to florida. Pretty comfortable and roomy when popped open, pretty small and easily towed when closed.

Not that i'd want to live in one long term, but for something you could keep packed, run with on a days notice and live out of for a few weeks/months, not too bad.

I think I could live on a boat, where part of the living area is open and outside and you get a waterfront view as part of the package. I think I'd struggle with living in an RV unless I had it parked on 20 acres overlooking a small lake or something and spent very little time in it.

17' Go-Lite and 28' Prowler (1980-1998) - bought used and slightly rehabed. Mainly Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Misissippi, Tennessee, Alabama with south Florida the favorite in winter - two weeks the longest in one place.

The Prowler spent its last days(before sale) as overflow guest quarters for visiting friends/relatives - had full hook up just like a campground - except no cable TV - antenna only.

Re: RV living in San Antonio, Tx

My wife and I were just discussing the RV thing tonight.
Not as an option for us, just casual conversation.
I believe I could live on a boat, but not in an RV. Also,
I need to have a home base (bases?) where I know
the people and the territory. That's why we ultimately
chose Texas for our ER (at least winter) living. I lived there before and knew the area well.

I spent many a summer weekend on the beaches of NC in one of these, when I was a kid.

They're certainly cheaper and more compact than an RV. But there's a bunch of work in getting it open. Even if the weather is bad. My folks eventually got a towable RV. A lot less work.

Re: RV living in San Antonio, Tx

If I was reduced to a pop-up camper, I would just
shoot myself in the head. Truly, I can not imagine
anything worse. I'd rather be dropped off in Baghdad
with a knife and some jerky for food.
An AK-47 would be helpful also.

Re: RV living in San Antonio, Tx

How about a 400 square foot park model as discussed by Scott Burns?

I first saw these in 1989 in a McAllen RV park during camping during Christmas Holidays - my informal survey - Iowa, Kansas, Texas, and Illinois were the most popular plates on the cars parked outside. The 'Winter Texan' was a mini newspaper I remember - activities, classified ad's, etc.

Re: RV living in San Antonio, Tx

Mys sis & her husband bought a pop-up camper. First time they used it they crushed the coffee maker when they collapsed it. Had trouble with setup and take down
and noticed how those with trailors and motorhomes broke camp quickly.

I'm thinking of a small trailor for short trips. Could never be a full timer on boat or rv. Where would I put the big screen tv? Now if I had 10m...
