True. And the guy probably worked a lot of extra hours to pay for it all. I've no doubt that women, directly or indirectly, are the motivation for most of the progress made by mankind.
From Robert Heinlein:
Quote:
"Whenever women have insisted on absolute equality with men, they have invariably wound up with the dirty end of the stick. What they are and what they can do makes them superior to men, and their proper tactic is to demand special privileges, all the traffic will bear. They should never settle merely for equality. For women, "equality" is a disaster."

Yep. What man would dream up sticking tubes filled with an unlimited supply of pressurized water inside his house? Had to be a woman's idea. *

Worse! It had to be hot water.
Global warming, here we come.

I think this is basically true, at leat for heterosexual men. When I lived out on the Olympic Peninsula I had two older friends who had spent the depression out there. By the 70s one was a logging show tree-topper, and the other guy ran a gas station/ restaurant with his wife. I met them both at his restaurant. Knowing that Seattle had been a hotbed of socialist politics back then, I asked what it was like out on the peninsula. "Best years of our lives-- fishing, fighting and f*cking almost every day."
There was fish and game everywhere, since population desity was very low, and no one had the gas to get there from Puget Sound cities. Food was just not a problem for an able man. And the oldsters were taken care of by sharing. There were also some pretty rough self-sufficient women out there too, some of whom I also came to know.
They hated it when the recovery came and their wives pushed them back into working. Though I'd say the tree-topper managed to hang on pretty well, as did the other guy come to think of it.
They both had very pretty wives who still looked sexy and appealing in middle age.
Ha

I almost LOL when I read this! My SO has told me, almost since the time we met, that his idea of the perfect house is all concrete with a floor drain in each room, and a sprinkler system that can be turned on to hose the place down.

Wait a minute! Why are we getting carried away here?
Hey, don't distract me. Let's get back to hammock. Yeah, that's all you need.

How about this?
And that's a 10x17 foot storage unit at the back - two stories of storage.

I see many columns capable of supporting a multitude of hammocks.
Approved, pending the planting of trees to provide shade for such hammocks.

Well - there is plenty of shade within the covered parking area......
And you can still look out on a view.....

If I had to live in Jay's tiny house, I'd be a stark, raving lunatic after just a couple of days.

Materials to build would probably be under $10,000 + the trailer... so, yeah, at $400+/ft2 they're considerably more expensive than nearly any site-built fully-appointed custom home. Can't imagine a bank loaning money on one, and I also suspect the resale market would be really limited, probably almost non-existent. It looks more like a gimmick to me; I don't know anyone who truly aspires to live in a phone booth and shower over their toilet... but, to each his own, I'm glad the guy is doing well with his little concept.

Here's a later video of the same 8' by 12' house. Jay said the material cost was $17000, and the labor was 500 hrs.
The most interesting thing near the end of the video is that he admitted to needing a bit more room for his wife and newborn. So, that explains the more conventional 500 sf home in the same lot.

Well, I can definitely see how easy it would be to get pregnant in that house....

Hmm... What about hammock? Er, never mind...
Well, there's this woman who lives in a similar tiny house. She looks perfectly sane to me.

Without having watched the video (it's too late at night to wait for it to download on dial-up) I think I've seen this house online before. (KOMO is a Seattle station and the tiny house I am thinking of is in Olympia WA). If it is the house I'm thinking of, unlike Jay's, it has no sink and no shower. It's parked behind the home of some friends of the owner/occupant and she uses their facilities. IMO, if you have to go into another building to bathe or wash the dinner dishes, what you're doing is not "living" but "camping".
