Nook, that is sure a bummer, but get well, get the bike well and keep the sense of humor. You now have a retirement story that is more interesting than most. Is sounds like it could have been worse. Take care and try to enjoy the time you have recovering.

Wonder if I belong here or not? I started collecting my pension in April at age 55, but actually finished w*rking back in April 2009. It was great and a relief back in 2009, but even better when I got my first check in April! I am still amazed when I see that deposit popping up in my account every month... gives me such a kick even though I deserve it and paid dearly for it.

Queenie, I think I'll feel the same way next month! Sitting at my desk, still trying to off-load responsibilities. Eight(8) more working days to go! Getting really excited, but am just starting to let go of the career. Now that I've turned over some stuff, it's getting real and I'm starting to relax, even at work. As another poster said, it's almost surreal. I predict not having to care/worry anymore about all of the craziness that surrounds me at work is going to be a monumental change for the better in my life.

All doubts have been removed and I know I made the right decision. Wouldn't matter even if I wasn't FI. I just couldn't keep doing this any longer.

OK, add me back.....

It is really funny how life turns. Was reading a bit last night about "triggers" for ER as I contemplated where I was going to go from here. One of conclusions of the thread was that the triggers are heart attacks, realization that you weren't spending enough time with family or separation from a j*b, etc.

So I walk into w*ork this morning and talked with my boss. Long story short, we agreed to separate.

So mark me down, 8/31/2011.

So what you're saying is for you it wasn't "just one more year", it was "just one more month."

Congrats!

Yep, counting it down. The lunches have started. Declined multiple parties. Just want to go out as quietly as I can. DW and I are already making plans for our new days off....which will be EVERY day!

FWIW, I declined most parties and associated fuss, but I have to say I enjoyed the ones I went to much more than I expected. The last one was more difficult than I expected - I was prepared to say goodbye to everyone, but it was harder to say goodbye to all of them at once, I had not anticipated that aspect.

I don't miss the work, or esp the Corp pinheads, but I do miss having many of my co-workers in my life everyday. That will pass as the new chapters unfold though...life is good.

I love reading this topic and seeing all the waving smilies!

Congrats to all the recent retirees. DH passed his one year retirement anniversary in June and I hope you all enjoy your new life as much as he is enjoying his. He needed some adjusting time but he's learned to play and enjoy. Sometimes he's busy (bicycling, gardening, yard work, house project) and sometimes he's not. It took him a while to understand that THAT'S OK!

Wife and I took a job today. We rode around our golf course and filled divots with top dressing and seed. Gratis of course.

Man, what a week to go! Got to get my mind right again after this market mania, and I currently had very little in equities.

About done giving away stuff from my office. I have it almost cleaned out or taken home. Lots of memories, but I will not miss most of it. I will miss some cool people from all over the country that I worked with a long time.......

DW is more excited than I am right now. I'm excited too, but a few anxieties creep up in the middle of the night. I hope I can decompress quickly and just relax. I know it's in me from some two week vacations I've taken.

My office is no more. Just some walls and furniture. Going to glide through today and show up tomorrow morning for a little roast, then off to lunch with DW and a movie.

I'm feeling a whole lot better about this whole FIRE thing! I have high anticipation of what truly unwinding will feel like.
