Thanks for the well-wishes, classmates! I'm still spinning a bit. And loving it (in my best Maxwell Smart voice) .

I just noticed that, if one can believe the view counts generated by the site, this topic is currently the 12th-most-viewed one in the "Life After FIRE" forum. I'm hoping that means that the arrival of each and every one of our Big Days helps inspire and motivate others who are heading down this same path!

Done!!!

Finished my last client meeting and sent out the farewell email. Just need to shutdown the laptop, walk to HR, give it to them along with my badge.

Don't know that I have much to say except THANK YOU to everyone here that helped me, directly or indirectly, think through my plan and approach.

I certainly COULD have FIRE'd without you, but it wouldn't have been as much fun!

Mark me FIRE'd 8/31/11

Boy, it's really exciting watching the list of the class of 2011 grow.

My hearty congratulations to everyone - and to all of us in the class of 2011 - a well earned and well deserved retirement!

I'm proud to be a member of the class. Who will join me in a virtual toast?

We're only 2/3 of the way through the year, so I'll hold off on the toast until it's closer to Auld Lang Syne time. However, it is time to raise a glass to new inductees like Sparkie67! Today's the day

Wow, this is AMAZING - - congratulations to the huge Class of 2011.

When I retired in 2009, the "class" was so small that I don't think we even had a thread. But just look at this bunch!

Greetings and Salutations All!
First off congrats to the new inductees to the class of 2011. I raise a glass to each of you.

Been just over a month since my formal ER, but have been back working 3 days a week as a contract employee. Being on my terms is much better than the former arrangement and the big pop in the $$ is sweet as well. Sometimes it seems I am working harder now than before! This gig is supposed to end in another couple of weeks and then it will be the real ER life.

The cast came off on Wed, but that ankle is one ugly sight! It is worth it though to be able to get in the shower after 6 weeks!

Mega Corp had an all hands this week where they announced reductions in vacation time and 401(k) contributions starting in 2012. A friend came up to me after the meeting and lamented that I was the smart one to get out when I did. The drones are not happy and many want to fly from the hive.

Alas a chilled Viognier is calling and the weekend portends wine club pickups and a wine festival at the local University.

The good life is sweet!

Midpack,
Thanks for the well wishes. Actually the Harley is on the mend as well. Because of the two-tone on the tank and the semi-custom front fender color, (i.e. not black) it takes about 6 weeks to get replacements with the proper HD paint scheme and badge placement. One those arrive, the other misc parts are quick to obtain. Should be rideable by the end of Oct if not sooner, even if its owner is not ready for it.

I retired on June 10, and so did DW. While dw chose to go back since she was a teacher in a private school, she is only aiding part time. I have no interest in going back, but my position was eliminated, so I couldn't even if I want to. And I'm no aide.

I'm enjoying retired life, though sometimes I have to pinch myself. Only when the checks from SS and the pension plan are deposited am, I really sure I am not working. This is the first September in 58 years that I'm not either going to school or working in a school. Its pretty weird.
