79 days to go! Includes weekends & holidays, so a lot fewer "work" days...

Getting Close

Down to 50 work days left. My preference is to go part time for a while after that, although it's not necessary financially, and I've been talking to management since February of this year. I'm getting some push back about me leaving now (it's complicated), and they're dragging their feet. So, it looks like I'm going to have to be more insistent. But, I want to do it in a professional way, it's a good company, and also not burn any part time work bridges. It's going to be an interesting summer.

81 days to go, by then I will return back to the US buy my dream home and retire for good. Been overseas for the past 5.5 years.

Mega Corp (competitor) heard about it from a close friend who works for them and now they contacted me to offer me a lucrative deal to join at local office where my retirement is planned, my wife is pressuring me to accept, I want to fire.

Throwing my hat into the ring. I gave formal notice on April 7th. Eight weeks (a little less than six, as of now). My last day will be June 2nd.

I spent a couple very pleasant hours reading this whole thread. Coming up on 500 posts! What wonderful stories, positive vibes!

My congratulations to all those who have already hit the magic milestone. And good luck to those of us still marching towards it...

Change in my plans...I have been all over the place on my date-the earliest is the day after I am 100% vested in my retirement plan-early July. The end date will be early 2015. The timing between is based on a bunch of issues: timing of DH's retirement (I don't want to go first for several reasons), ability to add to net worth and have a little more growth of current funds, shift income to next year to reduce taxes. As for DH's timing, I over heard him say 6 months to go to a friend last week. He seems to be getting comfortable with the idea. I think the idea of a layoff with severance happening to him is gone.

I am generally comfortable with the idea of waiting until January 2015 as long as I can take a bunch of time off at the end of 2014. The extra income, saved taxes and ability to make one more year of deferred income seems like a good plan. The thing that is bothering me is I started to classify work activities as "this is the last time I have to do X". Now by shifting the date, I have several significant activities to complete prior to January. I like my work when it is busy. However, I have been here long enough that I get the job done quickly and then get bored.

So for the time being, I am going to mentally (and on this forum), start setting my eyes on January 2015 to give notice. And then, I may opt to go on paid leave of absence to continue health benefits for several months. Who knows, I may get to November and flow in the towel.

2 weeks in, cant believe I really did it! Agreed to stay on part time, worked 2 days last week, 12 hours this week. Anyone have advice on how not to get sucked back in?

Loving life at our lakefront house wit our new boat!

Huston, I am in exactly the same position. Working part time 2 weeks into retirement, hard to pull out all at once!!
