Can you sign on for someone else?
DIL, AnnieK, ER's on July 30 2014, age 55 with 25 years service as an attorney for the US Government. We're proud as all git out and happy because she'll be taking a few months to pick out a community in FL. We're hoping she'll pick somewhere near our own FL community, because we get along real well, and we love to be together.

Son Steve has another year+ to go... He's also an attorney. Another year because of one son starting Grad School in the fall, a Daughter starting Nursing School then, and a third son beginning College in 2015.

I am beginning to feel old(er).

Getting very close to adding my name to the list. Just gonna run down our budget numbers for the zillionth time - and tally up our dividend income for the umpteenth time. Going to draft my letter of notice during the first week of July, hand it to my overlords on July 15th with the intention of Sept. 15 being my last day... oh boy, a bit excited/terrified here. and

Count me in, last day will be 12/31/2014. Just listed Texas home last Tuesday, got full price offer on Friday. Texas megaCorp employer agreed to my finishing year as full paid employee/advisor from Florida. Fingers crossed, life is good.

I'm curious to see when Sea Kayaker pulls the trigger. I'm in a similar boat where my job isn't super great, but my spouse's is. I believe that's his current situation.

Five more working days until July 2. I will technically be 59 but will turn 60 at the end of July. Not ER by the standards of this forum but not too shabby either.

So you're beating me by one day, huh? My last day's July 3. I'm 56 & 1/2. Congrats!

Thanks, Martyb, and congrats to you, too. I have been asked by co-workers why I am not retiring on July 7 as I would get paid for the July 4 holiday. For one, I didn't want to risk pulling office coverage on the 3rd, the day before the holiday when few people would be around in case of an emergency. Also, I want to generate as little W-2 income as possible as it dings my SS survivor benefits. As it is, I won't get any of these benefits for at least 6 months as my earned income is too great for someone who is not FRA. My agency will pay me for my unused vacation and sick leave but it is a mixed blessing due to the SS clawback. I feel I have to blow this "bonus" money. I plan to buy a new car when the 2015 models come out.

Count me in! Or out!?! I am training my replacement and he's pretty sharp, so I'm thinking by end of July, maybe early August.

AJS56 over and out at age 57!

I've been asked the same question. The answer is that I'm a federal employee, and my retirement plan (CSRS) is set up in such a way that if I had not retired by the 3rd at the very latest, I would have had to wait a full additional month before I started receiving my pension payment. By retiring on the 3rd, I'll get my first check on or about August 1st. If I retired on the 4th or later....it would be September 1st before I got paid. By retiring on the 3rd, which is a Thursday, I'll be giving up one day of pay.

Well, pulled the trigger today. The boss isn't too thrilled even though I'm confident the world won't stop when I leave. Last official day will be 31 Dec but will be done working mid-November and will be retired at the ripe old age of...40.

I haven't formally introduced myself but I will soon...just hard to type out the full story on my Kindle!

Hello, my dw and I bought a nice house in a place called Orcas island, WA. We intend to retire and travel back and forth between Orcas island and southern California, so need more time before ER. You can remove our name from 2014 and add it to 2017.
