Just over two weeks to go (8 working days counting vacation) and things are getting really weird at work. One of my team members that just returned from maternity leave and when I told her about my RE, her only comment was "that's what I heard". She is really too young to be jealous, so who knows. My boss chewed me out last week for something that she did not even take the time to investigate fully. When I shared the truth with her, she did not show the slightest sign of remorse. Most of my team has turned a very cold shoulder to me even after I invited them to my party a couple weeks after my official date. 3 of the 6 have not responded at all.... I'll be FIRE'ing on my 54th birthday and they have been aware for about 4 months. I am doing the best I can at leaving with a professional and positive approach. It seems that not many people leave this company on their own terms. I shared my news early because I thought it was the right thing to do for some workload decisions that were being made. I look back on that with no regrets as I will be able to live with a clear conscious. I can put up with 8 more days of awkwardness....no problem :-)

Wow Cinman. Really makes you wonder what's going on with everyone. It sure seems like everyone is bitter about you leaving on your own. Congrats!

That has to be disappointing Cinman.... it's early yet, having given my two months notice on Monday, but everyone has been pretty darn happy for me. Maybe things will deteriorate as I get closer to September, but I hope not to the extent you are experiencing.

Have been retired a little over 2 weeks now and am meeting former co-workers at a watering hole near the office for lunch tomorrow. They have been emailing and texting me to make sure I'm not having too much fun. I always tell them I just got up or am still in my pajamas at noon.

To heck with them Cinman. You won't be seeing or dealing with them in the near future and they certainly are not your "friends". Maybe a party with your real friends and not work acquaintances...

Cinman2000, you work with some very strange people. I would not give them a second thought, just clear the heck out and don't look back.

I gave 2 months written notice prior to leaving (although I had made no secret that I planned to retire at age 60 for at least a year prior). I did get some "but you're too young to retire". I was like...WTH? What is young about 60? But without exception people wished me well. I will say that once I gave notice I got slammed with extra work and projects, like they were bound and determined to extract every last ounce of worth out of me before i left. I still have not been replaced as the woman who bid on my job has to wait for someone to fill her position before she can move, and the agency will likely have to hire off the civil service list for her job. It could take months.

Cinman...I feel for you. I'm also seeing some interesting reactions from co-workers. My peer is not talking to me and seems to be avoiding me. I think she is concerned about picking up responsibility for my managers and projects. I suggested we schedule time for me to update her before I leave - so far no interest. Only 10 more work days for me. So excited!!!

Just wanted to provide an update...Seems we are on a bit of a roller coaster (should we and when should we retire). I thought for sure my DH would be done by now. Not so. However, the good news, I believe DH has crossed over into the "yes, we can retire" camp. This is huge for him. We are now starting and ending each day by saying, "One day closer." Not quite a countdown but it feels good to be making progress. I think DH will have a {bad} day that will push him over the edge and he will give notice (2 weeks). I am patiently waiting for that to happen so I can give notice. My notice will be longer (~6 weeks) and might come in a flexible work schedule for a short time. What I know for sure is if DH does not give notice soon, I might just be having fun without him. I am not starting 2015 employed.

Something to share...I have experience an interesting phenomenon with DH. On various different occasions and situations, DH says he can't do something (we need done to prepare for retirement) or commit to something because he does not have the time. I think that is easy...give notice and let's get on with it.

I hope you will be hearing from me soon that the beginning of retirement is here.
