Happy to say I joined the Class of 2014 as of December 19th. I'm filling in part time until my replacement arrives around the first of March. There was so much activity around the holidays and then a running vacation (Disney half marathon and marathon) in January. I am finally settling down to revel in "retirement". I have yet to decide where I want to end up - currently in south Georgia, but I can't stand the gnats in the summer which is a good 6 months of the year down here. Columbia, MO, southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas are currently on the short list, but I need to do some exploring as it has been a decade or longer since spending any time in these locales.
I've learned so much from this group, and I hope to continue to learn more from all of you!

My 9 months since retiring last April have been fabulous. Both of our daughters had babies last year, and we have time to do the Grandparent thing. We have traveled too-Paris, Puerto Vallarta, and a Caribbean Cruise. Last fall I got involved in a production of Fiddler on the Roof, playing Lazar Wolf. Most fun I have had in many years!

Only 5 months in. Mainly been concentrating on recuperating mentally and physically from my 25 year meat grinder construction gig - haven't done any of the "big things" on my post-ER list yet...although I did manage to sneak in a month of Baja goodness. That said, probably the happiest 5 month stretch I can remember.

And I only expect it to get better from here...

SK, is the missus doing okay with you being retired still? Did she get to spend any time in Mexico when you went? Disregard if these questions are too personal. Thanks.

I think she is loving it as much as I am. As for our Mexico trip, I went down a week before her, so I had a month there while she had 3 weeks...worked out well. I picked her up at the airport and had our condo stocked with groceries...and cervezas.

Still in Transition

Been semi-FIREd for 7 mos now and enjoying it tremendously. The freedom to make one's own schedule is priceless. Have done some consulting work about 6 wks during that time, and actually enjoyed that too.

But, we are still in transition because we're moving (as originally planned) to the SF Bay Area next month. We decided to return, after more than a decade, to the place where we have great friends and wonderful memories. So, although we've started to settle into a RE routine, the fact that we're really still 'in transition' makes it different. We are spending much of our time preparing for the move and it feels different psychologically as well; we feel somewhat in limbo. I expect that will be the case until we're settled into our new place, and the routine that goes with it. Looking forward to getting there and settled for, hopefully, the long haul.

Hey gang, just wanted to pop in and see how all of you Class of 2014'ers are doing. Now that the weather's getting nicer and I'm starting to feel like a kid about to start summer vacation, I'm starting to wish I hadn't dropped out! Anyway, hope everyone's making the most of it!

After 15.5 months of glorious retirement I was asked to come back (to work - horrors) part-time for a year. I almost didn't do it, but they made it so lucrative that I jumped. Paying me more than when I worked full-time! And instead of paying insanely high retiree medical benefit premiums, I pay active employee rates; then jump to another 18 months on COBRA. I hate being tied down, but, for me, it is a good trade off. AND....I am taking a month off in November to travel to South Africa.

As I near my 1 year anniversary - I have to say it's a great feeling to not have to go to work. As others have said - I wonder how I ever found time to work.

Closing in on 14 months of retirement and all is well. I'm caught up with spring yard work, and I'm hitting the hobbies hard.

16 months of retirement for me. And it has been wonderful! There is no way I could ever hold a job anymore. Money is not an issue. Life is Good!

Getting near the one year mark.

Finally relaxing , no longer have the "I have to rush and be somewhere feeling " and no more "Aw crap , it's work tomorrow " Sunday nights.

Enjoying every minute of retirement as I approach my one year anniversary. I don't miss the one hour commute and the office politics. I meet some colleagues for lunch every couple of months with an agreement not to discuss the workplace.

Still learning this ER thing with 10 months nearly gone by already. And time flying by so astonishingly fast has truly been the biggest eye-opener. We always have something to do, and have not been bored ever; but cabin fever was getting ugly before Springtime finally arrived. I think a Caribbean vacation is in store for us this next winter to avoid that happening again. On the FIRE side of things, it has been interesting watching the budget, coming in about 30% under monthly budget on a routine basis but it doesn't seem like we are missing or wanting for anything. We actually stopped taking distributions and have been gliding for a few months, just living off smallish pensions. Waiting to see what SCOTUS has to say about ACA, and have plans in place to keep 2015 income very, very low should that have some advantage in the bigger picture.
