I hate to admit it but I'm going to drop out of the class of 2014. Originally I thought once I got the healthcare situation squared away I'd be free to go. Call it OMY or whatever I just don't feel ready. My job is lightening up even more with the addition of a young guy who will eventually take my place. However it is nice to know I can leave on my own terms. Just not yet.

No more thoughts of part-time work. My health needs me more. Please put me down as a full time member of the class of 2014 - start date of my freedom Feb 6th, 2014.

I was going to work part time but am done with that idea. Very much looking forward to full time freedom, aged 53.

Add me to the graduating class of 2014! Still negotiating the details of my departure, but definitely out by January of 2014.
Planning to pack up and move with the family to Alabama (from St. Louis) after the kids are out of school this summer. More time for sailing, warm weather and southern culture and food! Wife and I are age 44. Been working toward ER almost as long as I've been working!

Yep, while this group is truly impressive, I'm going to have to bow out. The timeline is closing fast and I'm not ready to hang it up. It could change tomorrow but there are no hassles at work and I'm given all the freedom I need to do what I want and mentor my replacements. We'll see how it goes. The key is FI, the ER part can happen any time

You have a whole year to change your mind. That's why you have the ?? marks. We like to keep people on the list until the end for this reason. Besides, it's a pain to change everyone's number.

Same here. Same decision, same age. I was thinking of going PT, but now I'm just going to stop completely. I may seek PT work some time again in the future, after I've had a chance to detox and rest for a long time, but I'm leaving that up in the air for now. Come age 53 (9/1/13), I'm done, full stop.

It feels much better -- I'm sure annienz would agree -- to look forward to stopping work completely, rather than just cutting back to less of the same.

After major surgery 10 weeks ago, I'm absolutely in the Class of 2014. Yes - I'm on the list already. Lots of soul-searching the past months. Like the work (mostly), but hate where we live. Opportunities in Mega-Corp to relo are limited. Pay is good. I want to stay to 55, lock in retiree medical and pension lump sum.

I'll tell the boss in April, then hang around a few months to interview and train replacement.

Fair enough. Who knows maybe I'll get offered a severance package. However, that doesn't appear to be in the cards. At my company that is only used for really poor performers and genuine slackers. Life's not always fair.

I am FI and capable of RE, but there are some things I still like to do and will probably leave the big co and hang out my shingle to do them as a consultant in 2014. Call it FISRE. When the kids finish college and start families of their own then maybe I'll call it a day.
