Dave, yep, I can fly space-a if I want to. I figure I'll take a look into that sometime. Also gonna look into AFVC Armed Forces Vacation Club deals too. I hear there are some good deals to be had with resort, cruise & other leisure activities. Also fully expect to utilize military billeting, at least to some extent, while we're driving around on our US road travels.

I know what you mean. I had been on the fence for a while (OMY was in full effect) and I was still 'sort of' enjoying my j&b. But recently there have been lots of little things that have become infinitely annoying..as I call it: death by a thousand cuts. So, I went in last Monday and dropped my retirement papers. I am 'on the clock' until November 23 and it feels like it's going to be forever!!! I think that's funny since 2 weeks ago, I had talked myself into doing OMY.

The analytical part of me wants to see a chart that shows class size divided by the year's posters. In other words, what fraction of the year's posters were in the year's class.

I think each class size is Just Right.

I was happy to be in mine and enjoy reading the new posts as they arrive.

I'm not analytical so much anymore. I just don't work

I'd like to see a second bar showing average class retirement age for each year.

Congrats to all additional members of class of 2014.

BTW, since we're adding ages - you can list my age as 48 (I'm Chris, born in 1966...).

7/15/14 milestone - today I handed my signed notice of intent to retire on 8/1/14 to the HR manager. I advised my manager about it months ago, but kept them in suspense waiting for the official notice.

7/18/14 milestone will be my 57th birthday

Now it's REALLY official... I turned in my resignation letter yesterday. Last day of work is Sept. 12, 2014 - so three days earlier than my original estimate. September 12 is a Friday. I predict that weekend might just end up being the greatest weekend of my life - and no Sunday Night Dread. Already, word of my ER decision has started to percolate amongst family and friends. I predict it may reach a full blown uproar. Nobody in my circles has EVER retired this early - EVERYONE has worked into their 60's - many doing so despite having more than enough savings to retire much earlier.

I predict that ER is going to be pretty great. Will miss the paycheques though.

After much thought and hand-wringing I'm officially resigning from the class of 2014. This week I extended the lease on my house in Jakarta for another 22 months until May 2016. And when I say extended the lease, that means I paid almost $90k up front for that extension, so it's a solid commitment. I chose May 2016 because that makes me eligible for megacorp retiree medical benefits (slightly lower cost than subsidized ACA with a better plan), the 2016 bonus plan, and full 2016 vacation allocation, yet frees me up to play for the entire 2016 summer. So I guess I just joined the class of 2016. That means by the time I retire I will have been a member of this forum for 10 years trying to ER. That's enough prep time I think....even for someone who isn't too great with change.

Congrats on making it official, Sea Kayaker! From what you've discussed on the forum, you should be completely set financially. It'll be interesting to see if your spouse sours on work more quickly than she would have thought.

Yes, Wannabe... that is really my biggest question mark as I enter ER. How long will my wife continue to work? She could join me in ER now, as our investment income is comfortably above our expenses (by about 2k monthly) but she knows that the longer she works, the higher our eventual retirement lifestyle will be - and she isn't quite the frugal freak that I am. She insists that as long as she continues to love her job, she is fine working another ten years. We will see.
