Want to snowbird to warmer climate for first time

We are going to try the keys out in the winter of 2015/2016. Rent a small 1 to 2bd on one of the canal fingers. VRBO seems to have some (not in Key West) for $2,500 to $3,500 a month. I do want something with a dock for our small sailboat.
