What are your Hobbies?

Hmm... The current major activity seems to be taking the house apart and re-assembling it one room at a time. (We've been here 23 years, and some things have deteriorated to a combination of 'Eeech!' and deferred maintenance. I got 23 years out of a carpet with a 7 year warrantee, for example. Eeech!) I'm having fun with it, though, playing general contractor, playing with dangerous power tools, and generally messing about.

My longer term hobbies are still playing with small fast cars (time to thaw out the Miata), photography, and reading. Not so much on economics any more, after the recent real world science experiments.

One I added after retirement: oil painting

Ones I've gotten much better at after retirement:
gardening -- the drip system is now doing better and lots more blooming plants
birding -- I know about most of the local regulars around here (I think)
running -- goal is 20 miles per week in the hills
reading -- goal is 2 books per month (slow reader)
investing -- got a fool proof system after 2008 ... ...I really mean it this time!
wine tasting -- plumbing the depths of the wine cellar that's stocked with under $10 wines

My hobbies are the same now as they've been since I was a kid...I just have a bunch more time to pursue them!

▪ Omnivore Enabler! (I love to eat, therefore I love to cook)

Over the years, I have found that I seem to like learning new hobbies more than continuing them as a lifelong passion.

Things I wanted to learn, and still do occasionally:

1. Auto Body repair- love the smell of Bondo...
2. Private pilot- soloed a few times, decided it didn't fit with LBYM
3. Welding- proficient in MIG and FCAW, want to learn TIG.
4. Golf (though I don't play enough to be very good....)
5. Hunting- have been to Canada, Africa, and all over the West.

Hobbies that I still enjoy:

1. Reading- Child, Thor, Cussler, Sandford, Crais, Flynn, DeMille, etc.
2. Woodworking- currently dabbling in Molesworth reproduction furniture
3. Tilesetting - love designing and installing patterns and borders.
4. Stairbuilding (the more complicated the better- For some reason I really like this...probably the combination of math and carpentry)
5. Travel- have visited 50+ countries, goal is all the US National Parks

What is next?
1. FIRE- somewhere around 2013, health insurance a big factor
2. RV- probably a fifth wheel and big-ass tow rig...
3. Machining (mill/lathe with a slant toward custom gunsmithing)
4. Hiking- need to get out more, hard to find the time...
5. Volunteer work- probably Habitat for Humanity

Just exploring stuff I didn't have time or freedom to do before. I bought a nice motorcycle and thoroughly enjoy that. In the Washington, DC area that really isn't practical because of the traffic.

I'm thinking about taking up radio control airplanes again, this time with electrics because they don't have all the fuel issues to contend with. I did get tired of spending an hour after every outing cleaning up the airplanes.

I bought a small boat and that's fun. Again, it wasn't worth the bother dealing with DC area traffic to get to the river before. In WV I'm 20-25 minutes away and it's an easy drive.

And DW and I just signed up for a four-week class in digital photography at a nearby community college, so that will be something new that may blossom into a hobby.

Reading--I am currently down to one book club--I was in three and this was when I was w*rking---found myself suggesting books from the other clubs just so the overlap would give me time to get them read
Yoga--I did this several years ago and have recently gotten back into it

remodeling house - ongoing but more intense in retirement and it's not minor.
cooking (especially out of the garden)
reading - revived in retirement

I'm only 2 months into my retirement but I think I will get into these later on:

travel / possibly in a small RV

and whatever strikes my fancy down the road.
