This is my third year of retirement. In my case, there are some good reasons to remember days of the week. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are our gym days. Tuesdays and Fridays are trash days. Shopping and traffic are insane on weekends so Saturdays and Sundays are good days to avoid going anywhere.

But now and then I do get a little mixed up, too! :)

First day for me so I am in the freshman class for sure. I threw my clocks in the trash on day 1 so I am on my way.

Oldtrig, that is so exciting! :D
I intended on throwing my alarm clock into Lake Ponchartrain, but decided to keep it for times when I decide to get up early. Maybe once or twice a year.

I think this is year 6 for me, can you imagine I don't even know what year it is no less what day.

WR2, I got it out of the trash after I read your reply:D
I might need it so I can make sure I get up in time for the price is right show on TV:facepalm:

Yes, or if you ever decide to go on a road trip, go bird watching, or whatever you might want to do early in the mornings once in a while. :D

Gotta have discipline. The last thing you want to do is to go surfing on a weekend or a holiday. The parking lot is packed and the beach is a zoo.

As W2R says, remember your trash pickup days. Then schedule workout days around that. Then add in one or two days a week for shaving.

When you get [-]up in the morning[/-] out of bed you can look for the trash can to see if it's still at the curb or if it needs to go to the curb. If you're still sore then today's probably not a workout day. Then you can do a bristle check to decide if you need to shave... after you get back from surfing.

I can't say I have trouble remembering which day it is, but once in a while I forget what part of the day it is when I am beginning to wake up from my daily afternoon nap, especially in the winter when it is dark out pretty early. I have sometimes awakened and wondered if it was the morning or the afternoon. Only looking at the clock reorients me to what part of the day it is.

The only day if each week that I'm sure of, is Wednesday because when I look out in the morning the neighbors up the road have the trash cans set out. Other than that it's pretty much a crap shoot ad to which day it is!

I've given some ponderance to buying a day clock, but I keep finding that that money is better spent at the coffee shop! And that takes care if two things....I get my coffee, plus they'll tell me what day it is! ;)

Congrats on your ER!

I've not ER yet, but I plan to keep my alarm clock and calendar. How else can I countdown to my next trip and wake up for my flight?? :D

Correct.

Watches, alarm clocks and such are not needed in retirement - other than in case of an emergency (an example is that you should not be late going to the airport to get to your flight to paradise) :D ...

My retirement "goldtone" watch is still sitting in the box, some five years later. Hopefully, it will never see the light of day.

Anyway, my windows phone tells me what's going on that day (if anything special), since it interfaces to LiveID, where I keep my calendar. Much more functional than any watch.

I don't have trouble remembering what day of the week it is but I have huge problems remembering which days are public holidays. There was a day I woke up and was surprised DH is not going to work and I asked him whether he took leave to do something special.

When I first quit work the day of the week was painfully evident, because most of my friends still worked, and all of a sudden they were not free to get together with me anymore. That took some adjusting on my part, finding new friends and such :D.
Now I only think about what day of the week it is when there is something specific to track.

Once FIREd, if I ever need a part-time supermarket or fast-food job, I'll be happy to volunteer to work weekends, if the pay is better. One of the things I really like to do when I have a day off w*rk that isn't a general public holiday is to go round town, eat out, etc when everyone else is w*rking and I'm not.

Been retired for 8 months now, never have any problem remembering what day of the week it is. But maybe that will come in time...

Before I retired I suggested to my boss that instead of them giving me a watch, which I would never use, they should go to my favorite neighborhood butcher shop and get me a gift certificate. Well, who'd of thunk....they gave me (drum roll maestro)....a freakin' watch! Plus it's some off-brand piece of cr*p that set 'em back about $25! Haha!!!

5 years later, it's still in the original box, in the original wrapping paper (which was very carefully opened so it can be re-gifted w/o re-wrapping), and sitting on a shelf with some other junk!

As for an alarm clock...I've got one that has actually been set, MAYBE, a half dozen times in the last 5 years!

I solved the day of the week problem with a small white board that is in the room with my computer. It helps me get organized for different 'promises' I have made.

I'm having trouble remembering how long it's been since I retired. I think three years, with my four year anniversary coming up in May.

Alarm clock? Only use it if I have to be up really early -- because I'm doing something fun!

I put my daily vitamins in a day of the week container. Now I just need to remember what day of the week it is to take them. Sorta goes round and round.

Retired 6 years, the battery in my watch is dead.

I always know when it is Sunday because the newspaper is bigger. Otherwise we ask each other "what the **** day is it?" pretty often. It's when we end up asking each other "who are you?" that I'll begin to worry.

I didn't know that companies still gave timepieces as a retirement gift. That sort of thing seems so very much of the last century. My grandfather was given a gold clock when he retired - one of those things with the pendulum consisting of a set of balls that rotate in a horizontal plane. That clock was a fixture on the dresser when I was growing up. It seemed as if all manner of riots and revolution could happen in the world outside, but that clock would always be sitting in exactly the same place on the dresser in my grandparent's house, steadily keeping time.

He retired in the 1960's though, and that was rather a long time ago.

Our garbage day is Monday. Neighbor's garbage day is Weds. DW is home Sat and Sun. So I generally have an idea what day it is, but verify by looking at my phone or asking Siri.

Congrats on your retirement ducky 911 and Oldtrig. I hope that you are enjoying it!
