We're riding out the same snowstorm as Walt34- probably 5" on the ground here now and calling for nearly 2' by the time it's done. Weather report I saw shows it to be a little less in eastern WV- we're building a house in Romney, WV so guessing that this snow will pretty much stop all progress there for a while.

Before the snow started this morning, we took a foster dog that is recovering from heartworm to the vet. He was in pretty bad shape about 30 days ago but the news today is much better. He's suffering from very high blood pressure within his lungs which was causing shortness of breath and he passed out a couple of times. It's thought that this was either the result of the heartworm he had for some time or a blood clot as a complication of the treatment. The treatment for the high pressure in his lungs is sildenafil citrate which is the active ingredient of Viagra we're told- we found an online pharmacy that charged us $55 for a one month supply (2 pills per day). We were prescribed 3 Viagra pills locally in order to start his treatment and these cost over $50 at Costco, obviously the foster group wouldn't have been able to have afforded this treatment at that price. Good news is that it looks like he may only need these about 2 more weeks!

Watching the Capitals hockey game tonight, they're going for their 13th straight win.

Yesterday I almost ran into a seal. I was running on the beach, with my head down and I hear this kind of raspy moaning sound. I look up and I'm about to pass a few feet from a big seal resting on the beach.

Went out for coffee and breakfast after I crawled outta bed about 10am, then stopped by the grocery store to pick up a missing ingredient for some cookies I'm baking Sunday to take to the guys down at the Street Dept. for the great job they've done keeping my street plowed and salted so far this winter (and as a bribe for them to keep it up!). I figured the 2 cheese trays that I took them for Christmas took care of things thus far, and the cookies will take care of things until Spring arrives in earnest (42 days from Saturday!).

Went out for supper tonight, then downtown to the Episcopal Church for the monthly Bluegrass Jam.....LOTS of good musicians and singers performed tonight...probably the best jam that we've been to there in the several years that we've been going! Now we're really looking forward to heading down to the Jerusalem Ridge Festival this Fall for 4 days of good ol' bluegrass music!!!

Slept late...later bought groceries...yeah my... timing is off. Decided not to do the tax return today. Changed my mind on starting a new project. Lounged in the recliner and watched a couple of Desperate Housewives reruns.

Just got through watching the chase scene from Bullitt...it's still the coolest car chase ever IMO!

Played tennis at dawn with my good friend for the first time in several months. Since we moved to Louisiana I've only been able to play him every 6 weeks or so, but we haven't played since October and he's been looking forward to my return to start up the twice weekly games again. Today was an awesome game (Not that we are awesome, it's just that we are very well matched and after 90 minutes I was absolutely, but pleasantly, exhausted) Came home, had a hot bath and then was ready to face the day

Finished my taxes, got our cycles ready for tomorrow's ride, and watched a couple of soccer games with my son. Time for bed now.

Today had a lite breakfast (for a change) then did absolutely nothing 'til lunch time. Had a couple of hotdogs along with some nachos with lots of jalapeños, then did absolutely nothing 'til I went out about 5:30 and filled the bird feeders. Ate leftover 'cowboy steak' (cheap cut of beef steak browned in a skillet, then ya dump in pinto beans, cut up onions, cut up bell pepper, chili powder, ground cayenne pepper, garlic, and cut up tomatoes and a little bit of water....simmer 'til it's all fairly well cooked, then chow down!), along with some sliced and seasoned new potatoes browned/fried in a skillet, and a nice salad. Then I continued with doing nothing.

Other than eating, I managed to not get one dang thing done today!

Life is GREAT!!!

That will probably have the desired effect, more so than any letter you could write. I remember a few guys in the traffic section commenting on the results of running radar in response to several complaints of speeding on a residential street:

"When the Moms start bringing you chocolate chip cookies for running radar you know there's a problem there."

I take them a couple of cheese trays at Christmas too (cheese, salami, crackers, etc), and they always express their appreciation that someone thinks about them....even if it is just a bribe to keep my street in good shape! Ha!

A few years ago back when I was still working, a couple of my guys went out on a call for a backed up sewer. They checked the sewer main and it was OK, so the problem was the homeowner's. She wanted them to come into the house and check to see if they could narrow down the problem. It was always at the crew's discretion whether or not they would do and 'in house' inspection...they opted not to, and called me on the radio to inform me of their decision. So then she calls our office fairly distraught, and I answered the phone.....She explained that the crew wouldn't check indoors for her, and asked what she should do at that point.

So...being the great guy that I am...I hopped in the truck and drove down there. The crew was still there in their truck, and I told them I'd check it out. I went inside and found the only problem to be a clogged floor drain in the basement. Went back to the truck, got a hose-end clog blaster, hooked it up and had the drain free flowing in about 30 seconds. She was elated!!!

She was a young mother with a couple of kids under foot, a load of laundry to get done, a drain that was clogged where the washer drained, and a whit that was at it's end. Did I mention that she had been baking chocolate chip cookies?! She offered monetary payment which I couldn't accept...THEN she offers chocolate chip cookies....FRESH BAKED chocolate chip cookies!!! Why, of course! I can accept those!!!

When I got back to the office the work crew came in, and found me munching a cookie. They looked at me quizzically, and I told 'em...."Had you guys opted to go into the gals house, YOU would be munching chocolate chip cookies!" They learned a little lesson that day....it usually doesn't hurt to go a little bit out of your way to help a soul in distress...in fact, some times it pays off rather deliciously!!!

Today, as soon as I get back home form the free, monthly, community spaghetti lunch....I'm gonna be getting those cookies ready for delivery Monday morning....just before we start getting our 3" to 6" of snowfall!!!

Went to Sears and bought a new one (low end Kenmore, I really don't need all those bells and whistles). It will be delivered tomorrow, set up, and old one removed.

I guess 17 years is a good run for a washing machine.

About an hour later I got a call from the CC folks asking if that charge was made by me. Guess they noticed that I rarely buy big ticket stuff.

Walked around downtown Savannah most of the day. Had lunch at The Lady and Son's, Paula Deen's restaurant. Very tasty! Back at the hotel for nap time in preparation for the game. Other than that, been talking to the shreiff's dept where my Mom lives about a possible rescue. The power comany is estimating she'll get her power back by Thursday at midnight (been out since Friday afternoon). That's pretyt long for a 74 y.o. lady and her dog to survive in 2.5 feet of snow. When she calls this evening I'm going to try to talk her into being taken out of there and going to a hotel for a few days. Hope she'll do it. She's pretty stubborn.

Went cycling to our favorite coffee shop with DW and DS, afterwards watched Arsenal v Man Utd with DS. Lunch was left overs from the night before, then spent the afternoon helping DS to build more furniture for his new apartment. Ready for a night in in front of the box - after DW cuts my hair and I've had a hot bath.

Oh man, what a weekend. We got about 30" of snow on Friday and Saturday, which is a *huge* amount here. Lost power, phone, internet. House got down below 60 degrees, at which point I told SO to stop telling me the temp. Thankfully, power was restored last night. Phone and internet just came back a little while ago (and here I am ).

Yesterday I just sat under a down comforter in front of a propane heater and complained about everything. Poor SO did the shovelling (which BTW, is a miserable operation when it's freezing outside and then you come back into a freezing cold house). Today, we enjoyed the warmth of our heater, but I kept checking to see if internet had been restored. This afternoon we ventured out to a Panera that is essentially across the street from us, and I was able to retrieve my email using their WiFi service. Soon after we returned home we found the phone/internet was restored.

Hopefully life will return to normal soon.

Did a little more trip planning for our FL trip starting this Friday! Got a nice batch of chocolate chip cookies baked and packaged to deliver to the snowplow crew in the morning....before the snow starts falling!
