Mr B is back after 3 long days of going to American Legion College. He was in class from
8 AM until 6 PM, took a 1 hour dinner break, and then had night project planning sessions with his study group. He is pretty darned tired but very glad he attended. He said the food was fabulous, a surprise for him on a college campus. He was expecting institutional type food.

He will be here all week, then goes to be an Assistant Counselor at Boys' State. I will really have to think hard to keep myself occupied for a week. The living room painting project just may have to get finished up.

As for Friday night, I was part of this mess stuck in San Francisco...computers came up around 11 pm or so...we boarded our flight (orig sched for 10:12 pm departure) around midnight...sat at gate...waiting for bags to be loaded, and to be refueled...our pilots "timed out" and we had to deplane at 0315....finally got out of SFO Saturday at 11:15! Home by 8 pm - after that ordeal, was like getting to heaven!!

He's got a flight tomorrow morning to Boise, which is his final destination. His 16 year old cousin has offered to take him to the airport which is much better than having to use public transportation or pay again for the shuttle.

Outside of this being an inconvenient glitch in a business trip it sounds like he's having a great time. His work doesn't start until Monday anyways, they had scheduled his flights to avoid the weekend to save some money. The theater company is paying for his transportation and hotel for 3 weeks so this should be a nice gig for him.

Today is our 30th anniversary. We got a free dinner at the casino. On your anniversary, if you spend $5 gambling you get $25 credit at the fancy restaurant. I lost all my $5, but Lena won $12.78. So, free fancy early-bird prime rib and Caesar salad dinners, and we still have $19 credit.

Happy Anniversary and Father's Day! What a deal you got - - you have us beat, that's for sure. Today the restaurant where we ate lunch gave us a coupon for $5 off a future meal. I thought that was pretty cool.

I go to the local casino about once a year just to refresh the enticement mailings that include weekly $15 off food coupons at their restaurants. I invest $20 on the quarter slots. Sometimes I win, and promptly cash out while I am ahead. Then we leave.
Those coupon mailings will continue all year. We make sure we use at least 1 coupon per year to go to their fabulous buffet for a special occasion. Otherwise, we avoid the place.

I'm always amazed at how people can tolerate the smokiness of the casino (Indian land, so California laws don't apply). It's funny that at the info desk there is a sign saying "No smoking at the info desk." It's all one room, that can't make much difference.

Today is boat launch day!
I have my list of things to do to accomplish that, including removing the shrink wrap cover, loading the safety gear, filling the gas tank on land, getting the trailer inspected, and driving it over to the boat launch.
Mr B is not a boater, and admitted he felt a bit unsure about the whole process, so I recruited a buddy who used to own a boat to help me with the launch.
I think this will be my last year for the boat. I enjoy it, but the cost of the walk-up slip, the gas, the winterizing and storage, and insurance and fees are creeping upward while the depreciation continues to take a steep nose dive. The boat is a 2005 model.
I've had my fun with it, but I have to be honest and say that my interest level in and physical ability to continue boating is decreasing.
I've seen too many examples of people hanging onto a boat, not using it very much, paying for storage year after year, and end up with a lot of difficulty selling it.
I can sell it a lot faster if it is in the water, i.e. try (with me at the steering wheel of course) before you buy.
So I'm going to enjoy it this summer in last hoorah fashion. .
I will use word of mouth and bulletin board ads to see how much I can get for it at the middle or tail end of the season. High gas prices will have buyers looking for deals at end of season, avoiding the costs of operating a boat this year.
I will price it so it is affordable for a young couple just starting out. It is perfect for waterskiing or pulling a tube behind it.

Just got back from a great weekend visiting relatives and attending thr "Back to the 50s weekend" in St Paul MN. I was found by a guy that bought a 1948 Cadillac limo from me in 1970, he still has the car and I'm waiting for pictures from him.

This morning was "occupational exercise" removing an eight-foot stretch of eight-foot tall ixora. We started with a reciprocating saw, filled a pickup-truck bed and the Prius, and after 30 minutes finally got down to the roots. Then I spent the next 90 minutes with a mattock, thanking my taekwondo training for strong back muscles. I managed not to swing either end of the mattock through a wall or a sprinkler pipe... or a window.

The final root bundle is especially deep & gnarly, and possibly wrapped around a sprinkler pipe, so I was thinking that we'd come back next week with a set of smaller reciprocating saw blades. But spouse signed us up for Wednesday morning before I could mention that the surf that day is forecast for 8-10 feet. Eh, it'll still be 8-10 on Thursday.

The ixora were 20 years old, filled with whitefly and black with their droppings. It was time. The tenant is a master gardener who's going to take care of the weed control and then replant with hapu'u & raphis. Best tenants ever.

I've spent the rest of the day playing time-zone phone tag with the elder-law lawyer who we're paying to file for my brother to be our Dad's guardian. Dealing with this is hard enough without that type of service.

No such thing as a free lunch? We got lunch FREE today because it was the fifth day on our lunch cards at a certain restaurant. Wahoo! Love a bargain. I chose the tomato basil chicken again, in the photo below that I took a few weeks ago.

Afterwards I bought a great used 4 drawer file cabinet on sale for $69, on sale at a furniture rental place. They even loaded it into the back of the Murano for us, and F. wheeled it into my study using my furniture dollie. It seems reasonably sturdy and almost unused, and it is exactly what I wanted so I am happy.

Tomorrow I am off to see my daughter ,SIL & grandson. I can't wait. My grandson who's three has recently gotten into super heroes so I bought him a cape with a big lightening rod on the back . I also bought him several super hero action figures .Hopefully we will be able to see the new cars movie while I am there . It 's amazing how these little creatures can wrap you around their fingers .
