Finished packing - off to Peru tomorrow AM. In spite of scheduling it myself, I have a couple of days of brutal travel - early, early starts and long layovers. It will be worth it though, once we get there and drink morning coffee while watching a half dozen species of hummingbirds buzz around.

Funds from the sale of my previous home were transferred to my bank account this morning. I wasted no time in paying off most of my debts followed by a walk on the beach.

This is going to distinguish the "Travel Lover" from the "Travel Over"!

Went to Farmers Market (been a lousy year so far for farmers & gardeners); started soup; went barefoot into garden & yanked weeds.

Friend visited two weeks ago; cat does not like him.

Clothesline yesterday & tomorrow.

Had the check engine light come on for the 5th time on my new truck. Took it to the dealer and explained how unhappy I was that they have not been able to fix the problem - and pointed out this was my 7th visit to their service department since buying the truck in March. Got a rental and left it with them after explaining I would be moving from "very unhappy" to "angry and unpleasant" if we had to cancel our planned RV trip next week due to a broken truck.

Went home and researched the state lemon law...

Just got back from a Lucinda Williams concert at the zoo. As usual she really gave her all. A long set full of her uniquely poetic songs, some old, some from the new album that I had never heard. The crowd loved it, a lot of little kids there - I was with my son and DIL and granddaughter. A very mellow experience. Took me back to 8 or 10 years ago when I was dancing a lot and we played her music at CD dances. To me only Bob Dylan is in her class as a songwriter-poet.

I can't hear her without feeling that her guts are talking directly to mine.

Ha

I finished a music support that will hold my music up higher, which should help with neck and back pain. It looks high, but it's only 1.5 inches higher that where it would be on a grand piano. I used a piece of black oak from the "ends" bin at the lumber yard. Total cost: $1.41.

Just back from northern Virginia. We closed on our house there this afternoon, no problems, met the buyer and they are thrilled, they have purchased their dream home and told us about a lot of their plans. House was on the market about 6 weeks and feel like we got a fair price.

We're back to one house and NO mortgage. Surrounded by boxes of stuff to find a place for. Moving from over 5,000 square feet and 5 1/2 baths to to 2,200 square feet and 2 baths, anyone need a few plungers? Now we really feel like we're retired.

That's beautiful, Al. Looks like a good solution.

Nice view out that window!

Today was errand day...I redeemed a case of beer bottles, returned 2 items bought in 2010 to Lowes for $11 of store credit. I bought WD-40, silicone spray, and spray in foam to exhaust the store credit card.

Then I went to the Legion to pick up bulk meat we ordered a month ago.
I had a few beers with the usual crew. I decided to go half in with a good friend on $20 worth of pull tabs (3 chances for $1), handshaking that we would do an equal split on any winnings. My partner won $25. We gave the bartender a $5 tip, and each reinvested $10 again. This time he won $50. I pocketed $20, so did he, and we used the remaining $10 on more brewskies. I came out $10 ahead plus "free" beer and a happy bartender.
I never play the pull tabs, but just felt like it today. It will NOT be a repeat performance.

At home, I divvied up a 10 lb boneless pork tenderloin into pork chops and 2 small roasts. I sliced up 10 lbs of hot Italian rope sausage into single serve length links. The 5 lbs of prepared meatballs got divided into gallon ziploc bags. All in all, 25 lbs of meat cost me $61, no tax.

Excellent news, Dave. I remember when where you are moving from was the boonies, and where you are moving too was back of beyond. Enjoy the wild and wonderful. I may be joining you in a decade or so when we can afford to sell out here on the coast.
