Undeniably lazy day today. Dreary weather left me ambitionless (accompanied by a little guilt, but I'll get over it. ) After the barest essentials of house-husbandry (laundry, beds, vacuum) I logged-on to check out news, finances, and now, ER forums. Next to do a little research on new cars. Never having bought a car during the much-hyped Washington's Birthday Weekend sales extravaganza, we may see if it lives up to that hype.

Waded through the state-by-state allocation of Vanguard tax exempt mutual fund income for purposes of entering into tax software.

What forum did you use for your troubleshooting?
Door latch..that shouldn't even sound like it's running, eh? Mine just made a louder hum than normal. I don't think I've been to fix it now, but will take a look. A lot of fix it sites are 'link farms', and so have no useful info, or are trying to sell something. The most helpful site was an individual's site where he related his own microwave repair (the link is in the video).

Well, then you need to visit FixItNow.com. Although he'd be pretty amused at your "link farm" characterization. As would all the repair techs & handymen on the discussion forum. It's the only appliance repair forum on the entire Internet with both samurai and beer. Plus videos.

According to the troubleshooting guide, the door interlock apparently lets the light burn and the table turn without letting the microwave generator do its thing.

Talked to my daddy this afternoon (like I do every day). He's doing rather well since momma has passed away. Some days are better than others, but I'm proud of how well he is managing.

He did tell me another woman called him (this makes the third one since momma passed away). He knew her from a long time ago and said they had a pleasant conversation but if she's looking for a husband she needs to look elsewhere.

He enjoys friends, but does not want a serious relationship. I told him I'm sure it pleased him just a little bit that a woman would call. He said...'Pfffftttttt'.

He's a cutie.

Didn't mean to say that site was a link farm...just many were.

The interlock might keep the HV circuit off, which would mean the familiar hum of the transformer would be missing. If you have that hum, but louder, that's what I have heard several times over the past 15 years, and it turned out that replacing the magnetron fix it each time.

Yesterday was a rainy yucky day so out of idle curiosity we went the casino in Charles Town, WV. From time to time acquaintances mention going there and I'd always wondered what the attraction was.

I still don't understand the attraction. Lots of slot machines with whirly flashy lights, kind of dim lighting but not so dim you'd trip over anything. We wandered around for about 45 minutes, DW played one machine, lost a dollar, then we went home.

I guess we're not exactly high rollers.

Pssst. Don't tell anyone.

Morning public skating time is usually one or two of us on the ice. Three is a veritable crowd. Unless a school trip is scheduled, like today, about 25 high school kids.

Most can't skate so they are hugging the boards, the ones that can are all over the place. Sorta like the Heisenberg principle. Or Brownian motion. Makes for a fun session in dodging kiddies.

Another benefit of retirement.

That's nice. No ice rinks anywhere around here. I was spoiled because there was a pond literally next to our property where I grew up (NY), and I skated almost every day.

OTOH falling would be a bigger deal now.

Went out with SO to Emeryville for our traditional food outing yesterday. There's a food vendor she used to visit with her Mum, and continued to go after her Mum died a few years ago. The visits have become sort of a tradition. Now I go with her every so often. They know her and are always happy to see her. We get the house chow mein, which I always look forward to. Had a lovely day.

I did notice while traveling home in the evening via a combination of train, bus and walking, that since cutting down the carbs and greatly increasing my intake of fruit and veggies, that my energy level is more constant throughout the day. That alone is enough to keep me eating this way (plus the fact that I like fruit and veggies, so it's not exactly a tough diet.)

It's common sense that what you eat directly affects you, but it's gratifying and quite an eye-opener to experience it in practice.

Attacked our exercise/junk room today. Cleared out two bookcases and moved them to the garage. Threw away stuff, donated stuff and found other places to store stuff. Everything is moved out of that room except for the weight machine.

I'm going to paint the room, add a tv (for exercise dvds), create some paintings/drawings for the walls and add a couple of plants.

Actually used the machine this evening. 20 reps on five different types of exercise. Starting out on 20 lb weights since I'm woefully out-of-shape in the muscle dept. I'm such a girl.

Spent the day Friday and Saturday working on scrapbooks with a bunch of women much craftier than I. Friday I finished DS's HS graduation pages so I can complete his HS scrapbook. Today I completed about 10 pages of our "extreme home makeover" album - in November 2009 we bought a 1976 house that had minimal updates (think original shag carpets) and had a contractor totally remodel/update it. We moved in April 2010. Looking back, I have no idea how I project managed the remodeling while w*rking 50+ hours/week. Fortunately, the remodel turned out great.

Came home and cooked dinner - grilled stuffed pork chops, sweet potatoes and broccoli. DH and I enjoyed with a nice bottle of Bogle Phantom wine.

Prepared lesson to teach adult Sunday school class tomorrow. Got a happy e-mail that my college roommate's surgery yesterday went well and that she is home enjoying the flowers I sent. Oh yes, it rained the past two days which makes all of us drought-stricken folks very happy!
